Default Swapped steering wheel (pics)

Grant Evolution GT
GM install kit 3196

Pulled airbag fuse.t27 torx bit (IIRC) for the screws through the back of the steering wheel into the air bag.
Screw size into the steering wheel for the puller is 5/16"-18 coarse.
Went fairly easy. Had to make a steering wheel puller since I didn't have one. Needed to cut the trim ring down to fit as well.
I could've cut it a little less but what ya gonna do .

I just tore out the connection into the back of the "clock spring" for the radio controls and airbag. There must be a better way but I didn't take the time to screw with it.

The new wheel is so much smaller than the stocker that it's rediculous .
It'll be nice having a little more room for the clutch leg.

Door bars and bolts = 14.5lbs
Cruise control = 5lbs
Steering wheel with airbag = 5.5lbs
Airbag control module = 1.5lbs

Current total = -26.5lbs

Here is what I did for my airbag light:
pulled back the gauge sticker (the part you change when you change to white face gauges) put a piece of black tape on top of ''AIR BAG" and put it back together. another alternative is take out bulb.

What tac do you have?
How is it at night?

One more thing. The Air Bag control that you removed.(The yellow thing held in by the snap ring)
You can leave it in there and use the Green and white wires for buttons on the wheel. Thats what I did on mine.
Just cut the connector off it and use the green for a left button and white for a right button Then grond each button.(so when you push the button it makes a ground. Then trace the wire out the bottom of the column (I think it is the only Green/White with yellow connector coming out of the bottom of the collumn. Then cut that bottom connector off and use one for something and the other for something else on the ground side. I used one of mine for my line lock.

Yeah I was trying to take it out without cutting the wires. Once I started pulling it and saw the unremovable connector in the back, I just tore it out.

NOOOOOO!!
Do not take out the bulb, it is a soldered in led. It will screw up the gauge cluster, I followed someones instructions once on this and ended up having to get a new cluster.

Simply pry the cluster open and wrap electrical tape around the led for the airbag. This is the easiest and cleanest look.

Putting the tape on the top of airbag will look crappy.

Nice looking wheel and good write up. Here's a pic of mine, it's a Sparco Flash 3 with 2 buttons, the left button is line lock and the right button is the trans brake, works like a champ.

you can take the LED out, and put a regular diode in place if it and the dash would never know... you just have to get a meter and check the polarity of the diode you took off and put one in place if it the same way. Just get a regular diode, not a LED diode, and make sure that nothing is shorted out when soldering on the board, you don't overheat it, etc.etc.

Being that I'm an electronics guy, I can tell you , the only differnence from an LED and a regular diode is that one emmits light... so if you swap it out, nothing will happen.

That does look good too by the way, I definately want to do that eventually but I think I will puta removable wheel on, nascar style. Makes for a great security system (noone steals a car with no steering wheel on it LOL) and gettign in and out over a rollbar would be ultra easy. Plus at car shows, it will be cool to walk around with the wheel in hand, and let people wonder what that's all about.

Looks great. I bought the same wheel a couple of months ago, but haven't gotten around to putting it on yet.
