Default where you guys puttin your electronics

Im in the process of hookin up my 6al, window switch and timing box. I cant fit it all uner the hood to make it clean looking. So i was thinking about mounting it all to a piece of sheet metal and running a "wire harness" from all 3 to my engine bay. My question is how long of wire is too much? Can you loose current running it far from the interior as opposed to right in the engine bay? Does anyone got any pics of how yours is all set-up?

I put mine where the stock airbox goes
(Which is vacant since I have a ramair box now)

I've seen many people mount it just in front of where the fuel lines come out in the engine compartment.
(I did my 95 that way)

My Dad mounted all the electronics under the dash in an '86 camaro drag car. Worked perfectly and was neatly out of view.

My BS3 and redalert EGT monitor along with a box with all my relays is mounted to the passenger side floor board. My coil packs are inside also with custom wires.

.

My opinion, & experience, inside is always better.

Glove box, under dash, anywhere it won't get hit and still get fresh air.

My data recorder is where the back seat would be and my MSD stuff is on a plate mounted to the X brace of the passenger door. Those are pretty far from the engine and I've had no issues with low spark or inaccurate triggering because of a few extra feet. Good luck. Make everything clean and tight, u will be fine.

I put my 6BTM, 2step box, and module selector in the glove box. The BTM is bigger than the 6al, so it WILL fit for you.

I like it there because I can still make last minute launch rpm changes without having to get out of the car. And you cannot extend the 2step or rpm module selector wiring. What they come with to connect to the box is all you have to work with. (You of course can extend the power wires and etc., just not the ones that plug into the rpm module spot on the box)

Inside is definitely better as the components get far less heat. I put my VersaFueler box on the aluminum panel that replaced the A/C box. For now its outside (for ease of install) and its going inside before I start racing.

FWIW, I extended my ignition wires for the MSD stuff, and I extended my injector wires for the VersaFueler... No problems with either yet!
