Default anyone heard of using turpentine and bleach to get better traction on street tires?

This older guy that used to race back 70's said that they would roll through a mixture of turpentine and bleach and then do a burnout through it(on street tires)..and it would give u better traction...anyone ever heard of this?

yeah, ive used bleach and some water... makes the tire compound softer which allows for a sticky/gummy tire....

About what proportion of vht to Mt. Dew are you guys using. I have a few big races lined up this summer and I would love to make the guy **** his pants when I pull the front wheels out of the hole.

will it hurt the life of your tire anymore than just a regular burnout?...Ie: cause them to wear out faster or break down

We don't have an exact mixture; just a little of either or both in a puddle, do a burnout to coat the tire, and do a short roll out. I prefer using straight VHT, but it is rather costly unless you buy it in bulk. Me persoanlly, I'd rather drink the VHT and use the Mt Dew for the tires

It won't hurt it. It just causes it to be sticky, not break down or soften the compound.

So is the Mountian dew just to dilute the VHT so you get more use out of a bottle? Or does the dew actually help at all? I've always used just straight VHT, but you're right, its expensive.

You're exactly right. We use it to dillute it, but it does have some sticky characteristics to it that I'm sure helps. I'm not about to add water to it to dilute it ya know.

I belive VHT is made of alcohol and a glue like substance. It is what they used at the track to make it sticky. If you watch the workers prep the track after an oil down they will have a sprayer putting it on the track.

Also in the 60's and 70's they used resin, a powder that turned sticky when a burnout was down trough it.

We buy VHT by the gallon!! HAHAHA!! Goot ****, i have been looking for alternatives though. Just to see what else works.

All the honda guys down here in the SFV/Ontario use stright Dr. Pepper!! Take that Mt. Dew. Cant' argue with 17 second results
