Default 5 pt harness question

When you installed your 5 pt harness, how did you attach the side straps (that go around your waist) to the floorboard? Did you use the stock bolt locations? Or did you fabricate a custom mount? I don't see how I can possibly (or safely) use the stock seat belt mount holes. I can't seem to get enought thread engagment of the bolt doing it this way.

I just went and got some longer bolts, and used the stock seat belt holes. I even left the stock seat belts in for less headaches when driving on the street.

How long where the bolts that you used?

Did the new bolts have a shank like the factory bolts have?

The new bolts didn't have a shank like the factory ones, but you probably coudl find ones like that if you tried. I don't remember exactly how long they were, I just took a stock bolt with me to lowes and found something with the same thread, about 3/4 longer, and I used some washers around the 5 pt mount to allow it to move around easier and so that it wouldn't hit the factory plastic. Worked out good.

We have installed several sets. We open up the hole in the belt mount and slide it in under the stock belt. You get full bolt engagement with both belts

I was a little worried about messing with the belts... the thougth did cross my mind to do that, but again I wasn't sure if that was a good idea.

Yeah, I thought about opening up that hole also. I was alittle worried about taking strength away from the belt shackel. But it will probably still be strong enough anyway. Most of the force will probably come from the shoulder straps which wraps around the roll bar. Too bad I don't have a lathe around I could just turn down the shank on the stock bolt.

What to do, what to do...

Go to your local bolt store, get a matching bolt grade 8 or better and buy 4 of these

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...p?Product=2388

Install the belts in the factory locations.I made sure mine had 3 threads sticking out the bottom. Use these to keep the belt from being pulled against the FLAT mounting buckle they come with. The belt has a straighter "pull" with the angled buckle.
