Default LS1/1/8 grudge racing

I have an 02 T/A vert w/lid and a LM.Many of my co-workers are grudge racing on friday nights on a 1/8 track at a local speedway.

Is the f-body competitive in this type of racing?I don't want to go and make a fool out of myself.

I asked these guys if there are any LS1s racing out there and they asked me "what is an LS1".

I'm being challenged by big block chevelles,455 T/A,and a 351 mustang for starters.What would you do?Please advise.

I try and steer clear of 1/8 mile tracks. The 1/8 mile game is all in the launch, our cars with weak rears and high gearing are not big on the launch. If you have tires, a 12 bolt, and 4.10s it would be a different story. That being said you still will not be embarassed if you go. The very first time I ever went to the track I ran a 8.5x @ 87 (2.1x). This was good enough to be pretty respectable against the other "street cars" on street tires.

Good luck

I would think you'd be able to "hold your own" against most older muscle-type cars like that, depending on the specifics of course.

If nothing else, you'll probably have a blast! Go give it a try!!! Warning, you might get hooked!

You guys were right,it was a blast.I won some and i lost some.I have 11 time slips. My best run was against a 68 Cougar w/351 stroker. We both ran identical times 8.1.

I'm hooked. It was low key and many cool people. They loved watching new vs.old school.

I couldn't believe my first race...a honda civic totally modded and sprayin. He had me by a car length till 45mph,then i walked his A$$...i loved it.

George,
Thanks for the encouragement. It's small time compared to what you are running. There were two 502 69 chevelles that were very fast. They were the top dogs.

Your car is running in the 9 second range?Isn't there only a few f-bodys doing that...OMG.

I'm going to check out your web site.

You ran 8.1 with a lid and exhaust in a vert. Are you sure thats the only mods you have ? Are you auto or six speed ? What was your 60ft and mph ? Glad you had a good time. It does get addictive

My mods are FRA/K&N,SLP Lid,Descreened,SLP LM,Eibach Sportlines,Bilstiens,KBDD SFCs.

They don't do 60ft.times or MPH at Evergreen Speedway.

I'm getting it dynoed this saturday at Pep Boys dyno day, three pulls for $75.00.

The people at the track couldn't believe i ran that time w/street tires.I couldn't get it to launch at all.If i can get it to launch...my co-workers are in serious trouble. They thought my car was highly modded.I told them a highly modded LS1 would leave them in the dust.

LOL- Excellent representin' . Those really are some great times man. Even if mine hooked I could still only run an 8.1x, and I have all the bolt-ons you do + Lts. Very impressive for a bolt-on 'vert. If you can get a MPH for that badboy. BTW an 8.1 translates to about a 12.5-12.7 in an F-bod Quarter.

The drag strip is the straight away on the large oval track at Evergreen. The cars are actually on a slight bank at the starting line.

The locals told me 8.1 cars on their track equates to low 13s on a 1/4mi.track.

The track record is held by a guy sprayin a 5.7 late sixties Nova and the 502 big block boys do not like him.

Gotcha! Still great times. Times will vary from track to track. There are two 1/8th tracks within 40 min from my house, one is three tenths faster than the other. Low 13s in a mild bolt on vert is great! Keep up the good job smacking around the big blocks

How about some tips for the rookie.
What else can i do besides removing my spare tire and jack.
Would octane boost help at all?

I'm getting some drag radials...should i heat them up before my race.I'm bracket racing on 5/26 any tips you have for me would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Passenger seat is also a good weight removing trick. Those things are heavy...Especially with the Power lumbar option. Go easy on the drag radials though, the rears in our car are not the strongest. You should be fine but dont dump the clutch at 4K or anything. Just heat them up pretty good and leave around 25-2800 RPM. Try and shift around 6000-6100. Some guys pull the air filter at the track also, I am not big on that but it is probably worth a little. If you are going to bracket race try and go to get a little practice first so you have an idea of where to dial. Good luck, be careful!

Dont pull your air filter. I wouldnt recomend octane booster. Empty your washer fluid. Small amount of gas. It takes about 20 minutes to pull the front sway bar. You dont need any driving tips if your running 8.1's with your mods.
