Default 600hp, m6, 25.6" tire, what gears for 9"

Ok I just did heads/cam/nitrous and am expecting somewhere around 600hp at the wheels. Car has a stock m6 tranny and I'm planing on a 9inch rearend with a tru-track. I currently have MT 315/35/R17 tires, what gears can I go with at the track with out having to shift into 5th gear. I was hoping to get some 3.70's or 3.90's if possible. Anyone running a similar setup?? and what would an estimated trap speed/time be? The cars getting tuned (hopefully) next friday and the local 1/4 track is closing that weekend. I tried the calculator but the numbers mean nothing to me, lol.

OK you left out a couple big parts of the equation for us to give good answers to some of your questions. One is Race Weight, a 3800# car and a 3200# car are going to perform much differently and require different gear and have different ET and MPH on the same 600RWHP...

The other is RPM range of your combo and maybe even peak numbers if you know them. Since this will help determine the optimal Gear ratio...

I will assume you don't have a lot of weight reduction, and run the numbers on 3500#, but remember this is off if you are more or less then that. I will also assume you are going to spin the motor to 6400RPM's..

If your setup is perfect and have an actual 600RWHP and a 3500#, you should be close to 9.9s - 10.0's. Your MPH should be in the 136 - 137 range. and your optimal gear for that MPH and your tire size in 4th gear is a 3.5:1 ratio...

Again this is an estimate on the info you provided, and my guess at your car, if you can provide the other stuf I can give a better estimate...

Yeah last time I weighed the car it was 3560lbs and I current have the ms3 cam in so I'm assuming I will be spinning the motor to 6400-6500 rpm depending on what the dyno shows. Thanks for the detailed response, your guess on my car was damn good lol. I do have full UMI suspension, torqre arm, and Hal QA1R's up front and QA1's in the rear so hopefully I can tune in the suspention pretty good. With the speeds your talking about I'm assuming I can't go with anything larger than 3.70 gears??

my answer is a little diff. you kinda in the same boat i was. i went 3.89 in my 9in. u should to i say. no lower that a 3.73. here is my thoughts. your car will gain some weight with the 9in swap i dont care what you read. my 9 in F-in heavy in comparo to the sotcker. on motor the 3.89s will be a life saver on the 315s. now they may not hold the nitrous if you try and hit it from the go so you may end up needing a slick as i figured i would and got a 27 10.50 slick that will give you some more room to MPH and not tag the rev or hit 5th. just my quick thoughts.

play with the gear calculator and see what gears give you what mph and each gear. You can set your redline so you know exactly where your going to be. I went with 4.10s for m6 car and i will be using nitrous and i have the same 315/35/17 mt drag radials that you have but on the track im going to be using a 28'' tall drag radial. Id do the 3.89 or 3.90's if i was you and your going to run a 26'' tire at the track.
