Default Mt Et Sreet Radial 315/35/17 vs. 295/45/17

I have always ran a 315/35/17 and need some new tires for the car and wanted to run a taller tire. i was going to run a 325/50/15 but want to buy new rims yet(going to save for some bogarts). the car is mostly street driven and wanted to know if i would get better traction from the 295's because of the height or would it be better to stick with 315/35/17's. A 9'' with 4.11 gears is being installed right now and want to know what tire i should run. Any another other suggestions are welcome.

Ive read a little bit about the 325/45/17 M&H drag radials but some people said they are bigger than 28''. ive looked at the pics and they looked very close to the fender and rear bumper. I do not have adjustable lca's so i dont know if i would be able to get that tire to fit without being able to perfectly cenjter the rear end in the fender opening. i also read they looked very skinny and dont look good on an 11'' wide wheel.

I think the 295/45/17's are out but the 295/50/16 still dont have a release date.

The tread width on the m&h 325/45/17 are 10.3'' and the tread width on the Mt 295/45/17 is 10.6

any other info i was thinking of running the 325/45/17 M&H tire. I think they look a little taller than 28'' from other pics of the tires in the wheel well.

Mickey thompson's site reccomends a 9.5-11'' rim and it says they are 27.2'' tall

I have the m&h 325/45/17 on 11 inch rims and they do look small. I have not tried them yet car is at wheel 2 wheel getting tuned.I had bfg drag radials and I like they way The m&h fill out the wheel wells. Plus with the added side wall they should hook up better then the bfg's.

my buddy pulled some 1.65 60' times with the 275/40/17 bfg tires on a 3000 stall. I had the 315 bfgs and couldnt manage better than a 1.9-2.0 but i was driving a stick car and just spun.

I had them and they dead hooked like crazy, but, I went back to 17x9 wheels and tires because it was simply too much rotational weight for my level of power. I'm an A4 with 440 RWHP/417 RWTQ and the wider/heavier tires/wheels were really killing my MHP. I can hook just as good with the lighter stuff on. For the street, I'd want Nitto's in a 315 width and have a pair of take-off wheels with 275/40R/17 MT Street drag radials for the track.

... just my .02 cents worth. If I had a 8-9 second car, then, I think you'd prob need at least a 315 MT to get them to dead hook. I can't say below an 11.8 time 'cause that's all I have experience with. I've seen others though. CAVEMAN can tell ya' the best width for what ET/power level. He's ran about all of them on numerous cars ranging from 8.61 ET on up.

I just switched from MT 315/35/17's to Hoosier DOT drag radials in the same size. They hook on the street MUCH better.

I can run it up to 30mph in 1st gear and just stand on it and they won't spin. They won't spin in 1st on a 50 shot, and they BARELY spin in 1st on a 100 shot. This is with no burnout and on the street.

This is with a 408" stroker that makes 530+N/A BTW.

Wow i think ill be considering those for my 17x11 wheels for the street. i ended up going with a set of prostars and 325/50/15 mt dr's and they hook great. Im only putting down 470rwhp but i can stand on it any time in frist and they hook great.

6-speed. The Hoosiers are the only tires I'll run from now on unless they come out with some that constantly ooze crazy-glue onto the roadway.

My friend has them on his car. Cam only + 150 shot, makes about 560-570rwhp and probably 600rwtq. It hooks in 1st gear on gas and his tires are the 275/40's.

We both have full suspension with HAL/QA1's. I have 3.73's, he has 3.90's.

i am about to mount up my third set of mt 315-35 17's.

my best et is a 9.0 on a 1.50 short time, but on a low boost pass it hooked a 1.38 short time and ran a 9.2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCb0vLo-N7E
car is nearly 3900# and over 1.5" lowered; stock rear sway bar

in my opinion there just isnt enough on the hoosier drs to feel safe driving them every day... and if i am going to be swapping wheels and tires on friday nights then might as well run a slick and a drag wheel.

Mine is a weekend warrior. If i even thought about driving it to school/work, I'd keep running the MT's (if I could actually get a set), but I don't. The Hoosiers surely won't last as long and don't do as well in the rain, but they feel much stickier than the MT's.

MM, you should try out a new swaybar. I have the 1" Spohn and it is great, one of my best mods IMO. It doesn't make noise and the car felt like it actually rode better after install. I dodged a semi-tire on the highway a while back, car turned completely sideways at 60mph, with no front bar, with no problems. I would have probably put it in a ditch/pole without it.
