Default Icing the intake?

Does or has anyone iced their intakes at the dragstrip between passes, or to eek out that last tenth or fraction of a tenth?

I know it usually helps the 5.0 Mustangs and others, but haven't ever seen mention of it here.

I think the reason is that the intakes are made of plastic, (i.e. LS6, etc.) so heat transfer is not as critical as the 5.0's metal intakes. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure.

That what was I was thinking too, but I know Friday at the T&T I went to (which was my first time racing the car), my plastic intake was pretty darn hot...

Pretty much useless on our cars unless you have a sheet metal intake or one of the Professional Products/Holley metal intakes.

the intake gets hot after a pass, but cools down very quickly if you open your hood and there is no direct sun on it.

i honestly think its a totally useless thing to do on a car with a plastic intake.

My car doesn't seem to slow down at all when I hot lap it.

Alum block and heads vs a iron block and iron heads will show the difference when you start to hot lap the car. Alum has a faster rate of heating and cooling. I don't see much difference either when/if I hot lap. -Mark

Put a bag of ice on it and see. I've seen a corvette do it (they actually just left the bag on there and closed the hood, it supposedly ran faster. Try it and see.
