Out of all the street races I have seen from a dig I have yet to see a 6 speed of 5 speed car win over a stalled sticky tire auto car.
Most of the manual guys around here run street tires and they allways want roll races and can't hook from a dig. At the track they spin, blow clutches, or parts.
I know a fuy with a big power F1R 408 T/A and its a 6 speed but he is going to a TH-400. he fried his $800 clutch at the track....

thanks man, are you going to be up there again anytime soon? its suppose to be nice this weekend.
im not worried about being as consistent cause all of my cars have been consistent, and they have all been sticks, its just im wanting to go fast, but i like my car as a street car, and both have there ups, and both have their downs, it just a matter of which one is right for me.
i would keep the stick if i could proshift or faceplate it, but then again, there goes the driveability. and for a clutch that needs to hold 500whp plus the bottle on top of that, who knows how thats going to feel driving and how long its going to last.

my one buddy has a 360 in a dakota with a 727 trans, and he told me to go auto, but he said if i plan to go auto, i better plan to buy a trailor.
I like going to the track how my car is now, race trailored slicked up cars, and drive my car home just how i got to the track

Why do you need a tralior if you go auto?
Only reason I am going to trailor mine to the track is because gas is $5.79 a gallon and the track is 30 min away. Even if the MPG was better then 7 I would still trailor it.
Yeah your RPM's will go up some but not a ton. DO some looking around and see what most guys RPM at with a 400 and same gears and tire size that you have and that will give you an idea.

well right now cruising at 70mph i am at 1500rpms with the 6 speed 
the track is about 30 minutes away and its all freeway, and he says the 3 speed is going to suck on the freeway.
i also dont know what the gearing is in the TH400 and what gear i would need to run out back either, i guess i have some research to do

if the track is 30 min away, it will be about 40 min away if you go th400. I guarintee that you will LOVE driving it around town, it's a blast, highway for short trips is fine, but for an hour or more, it would suck.
Like the BS machine sais, look at the times in my sig. My 402 makes 470 thru the th400 and loose n/a converter, if you are gonna spray your car you will want a much tighter converter then I am running, and you will also gain alot more streetability with that. Plus, if you're spraying you will want a 3.73 rear gear, combine that with a set of 28 inch tall tires and your rpm at 65 will be about 2800, not the end of the world.
Also, on teh subject of roll racing, I raced a couple guys after the th400 swap, and they thought it was gonna be game over because I didn't have an OD... wrong. I blasted to well over 130 with NO problems, ate up a 500 rwhp stick car like it was nothing. And racing from a dig, forget it stick cars don't stand a chance. Same car got beat by about 5 buslenths in a 1/4 mile street race, and got beat by a good 2 on the highway.
I dont' care if you spend 1500 on a clutch, you will cook that thign trying to race it with a car that makes 500 n/a and you're gonna put a 300 hit to it. Get a good built th400, and call it a day, you can sell the T56 setup for abotu 3/4 of what a Th400 swap will cost you, and you'll be running that th400 for years.
Just put a scatershield on the th400 when you put it in please, just to be safe.

Basically it comes down to what you want more, track times or drivability. I am going through the same problem. I voted for the T-56, you'll always be happier rowing yourself. I figure I'll be driving mine on the street a lot more then the track so I'm gonna stick with the six. Maybe one day down the road I'll build a track car and no doubt about it will slap a th400 in there. I was shooting for low nine's with a th400 but if I can hit even a high nine in a six speed the prize will be that much more enjoyable knowing I pounded the gears myself. Plus you will get way more props not to mention the gear box looks way better. You wants to chew up their interior on a street car to put in some ugly shifter.

but a B&M hammer fits in the 6 speed counsel nicely, i think thats what most people use, dont need to hack anything up and it looks nice, its not all huge or anything.

you guys are forgeting one thing. A good auto needs to be gone threw every season and have the clutches swapped out even if its not slipping it keeps the trans in good working order and keeps other parts from being taken out. Any trans guy will tell you that on cars over 500rwhp need this done .
