I am sorry, but I voted to keep the T56....nothing is as fun as rowing them gears down the 1320! Plus, get a GOOD clutch (i.e. Quartar Master, Textralia, McCleod) and you will not be replacing them every month!

As previously stated. ANYONE can put it in D and go.

This is not to say AUTOs aren't sick, they are. I would only go TH400 on a completely gutted and caged race car...not a half and half street/strip car (which is what this guys car sounds like to me)

At your current power level and being that it's mostly a street car I would stick with the T-56. If in the future you are adding that 300 shot and it becomes more of a track/dig car go with the TH400. I myself am wrestling this option right now and I really like banging gears and have said I would never get rid of it but at the level I am at it makes sense to go for a TH400.

ya it is a street/strip car, but im also busting out 1320 passes on the streets (in a controlled perfectly legal enviroment though)

i love the T56 for the fact that that i have 2 overdrive gears but it seems like my auto buddies are always going to rape me and i have to play catch up in the back half.

Making runs on the streets from a dig instantly puts you at a disadvantage with a 6 spd against a good auto. Your posts are making it sound like the performance aspect is most important for you, so in that case go with a TH400 and you won't be sorry. I may be headed down that road myself here eventually, especially since I am a turbo car though as turbos and autos are made for each other.

Ya could always look @ a manual valve body 4l80, keep the overdrive. They're al little heavy and not cheap, but it would give you the streetability of the t56 and the fun/performance of a th400.

Might be worth looking into.

a guy here in kc just did a 4l80e swap out of the big vans. supost to suport over 800 horse with a very mild build on the trans. then you can have a big stall auto with overdrive

I highly thought about a 4l80 due to the 4th gear. But it's pricey. I am going with a th400 from my M6. BUT.... I'm keeping the T56 wrapped up and put away for de modding in a few years after I'm done racing the car at the track.

ya, 4l80e is pretty expensive, plus i half to swap it into a stick shift car.

if i go through the work of swapping to an auto and losing my 2 overdrives, i hope the car will pick up a lot. im not sure what my car will run on the bottle with the stick, and what it would run with an auto on the bottle. wish there were some people out there that went down the same road

buddy of mine did it with his old car, it went 11.6 on motor with the m6 and made 497at the tires thru the stick, swapped in a th400 and it went form 497 to 435 hp, and the car went from 11.6 on motor to 11.0. On the juice I don't think he ever got a clean run with the stick, but with a 200 hit the car ran 10.3

My car ran 11.90's with the M6 cam only and bolt ons. And 10.80's on a 150 shot.

My set up that just blew up went a best of 11.42 on motor when I could get a clean run in. And 11.1 on a 100 shot. And it was still a shitty run.

I'm expecting this new 383/th400 set up to run 10.80's or better on the motor. But thats not comparing apples to apples.

I vote for the th400. I went from a t56 to a th350 (rmvb, 4000 stall) and I do not regret it at all! It's a blast to drive around on the street, and it's fun to see how confused passengers get when you try to explain a ratchet/true manual automatic to them

I like my th400. The only thing I don't like is highway driving. Driving around town at 30-40 mph isn't bad at all. I still shift it like a manual, just no clutch. Launching at the track is definitely more fun with the th400. But I would say roll racing is more fun with the 6 speed. The 6 speed definitely feels like it has more punch from a roll. Its a matter of preference really. And you almost have to trailer it if you get a th400. The transmission will get hot at highway speeds if you have to commute for aways to the track and you really don't want that. At least, thats been my experience.

But I know one thing, I don't miss buying and replacing clutches.

If its a street car, stay with the 6 speed. If you go to the track often and wanna see the ET's go th400.
Its more impressive to see a guy run 10 NA in a 6 speed though.
