Default Front QA1s

Got to looking through some of my receipts and checking part numbers and realized that I had purchased the "F" series instead of the "R" series. I paid more for them than the "R"s were going for. My question is how much weight transfer difference is there between the two? Enough to take these out and sell these and get the "R"? I don't care about streetability because the car is rarely driven and I can tolerate a lot.

It's not a matter of weight transfer rather than the compression/rebound. The "R"s have a fixed compression so when you go wheels up, it doesn't slam back down on the ground like the "F"s do. Well worth the swap.

I had recently switched to the R's because my old F's were worn to ****.

Honestly, the car felt like it transfered more weight with the F's (when they were new) I have not yet had a chance to really test the difference at the track yet, blew my 3rd set of 4.56 in 2 years at the track on the first pass. I'm looking forward to testing them as soon as the new gears get delivered and installed.

Will the R's work well on a V6? I dont see why not but I figured I'd see if anyone knew.

I have the "F" shock because when I got them they didn't even have the "R" shock out.

I would not recommend using the "F" shock for drag racing, you run them on the loose setting and they handle horrible and you hit the brakes hard you will bottom out your car pretty good.

Get the "R" shock and if you have money, Strange also makes a double adjustable front shock for only 250.00 each. which is a good deal because you can tune it to work for street, drag or road racing.

The "R"s will work fine for a v6, might have to check the recommended spring rate, not sure what a V6 weighs vs. and LS1, but LS1 standard race spring is 275 pound.

Ran them at 3clicks on the front wile racing and 9 wile driving, 12 wile auto-x. Never bottomed out the car. Had them for over 3 years.

I have "F" and was just going to buy some new ones.

What did they charge you to re-valve them?

I switched from F's to the R's this year, I like the R's much better. They still ride/handle really well on the street too.

I called a place NAAKE MOTOR SPORTS 916-771-0109 here in California, they do service for HAL/QA1 shocks.

They quoted me 200.00 for the pair to rebuild / revalve my HAL "F" to a "R" shock. Turn around time is about 2-3 days they said.

A lot of money saved vs 340.00 plus shipping for new "R" shocks.

Or email dgoldie@qa1.net and see if Dave has suggestions on where to get the shocks rebuilt. He was manning their booth at the LSX Shootout.

That's who I talked to, they gave me the number to that place here in California.

All I know if 100 a shock is better than 170 for new ones and I only have like 20k miles on these.

Great info! Thanks guys, yeah it sucks because they seem to work pretty well, now I know that they could work better. I was seeing people putting their QA1s on 4 and 5 and was wondering how that was working so well for them when I had to set mine on 1-3 to get a good bite. They have <200 miles on 'em. Next time I'll look closer at the part number before I install my parts.

You can have them revalved to the "r" shock for 100 each.
