who else uses BS3 alon with a digi 7box?
who is using BS3 along with a MSD gold box (7 series)?
just wondering because i got my BS3 out of the wrapper and was kinda disapointed to see the lack of programmable timing control... i was hoping to see a likeness of a msd programmable digi7 box...

What do you mean the lack of programmable timing control? do you mean being able to change timing curves with resistor pills?
BS3 is a Full Standalone, you can map every portion of the rpm range.

im not worried about the rpm vs load.... im saying...
i want to ramp in or ramp out or pull or put back in timing based on gear change, time down the track, rpm slew, launch slew and also launch retard.... i also like the 4step (burnout, launch, limiter, and spoolup) capability of it also... these are a must for a car that is running in a limited tire class...
bs3 only has 3stages of timing control and its only based off of the time you left the starting line...and it also looks like you cant use the timing control if you use the boost controller....
i guess now it makes sense why all the guys that i see run these cars use the digi7's and the ams1000....

I have BS3 with msd 7531, but it requires removal of the factory coils, and converting to a dist and a single coil, with a external crank trigger. As well as changing to the standard BS3 box.

why would u have to use the original BS3 box if all i am using it for is fueling?
could i not use the stock hookups for the BS3 and then use the crank trigger for the MSD setup?
i would of course data record most of the stuff on the MSD...

Joe means you need to use the standard SBC version of the BS3 instead of the LSx version.
I've done quite a few of those setups on fords but most use a simple 6A(L) and retain the TFI based ignition. Not racecars by any means.
But, converting to a standard BS3 you lose the 2 step functionality in the box.
There are enough ***** to turn in the BS3 for a tire limited car, but if your dead set on the digital 7 find a cheap/used older FAST box or DFI gen6 cause you'll more than make up for the cost adding the distributor, digital 7, coil, etc etc.

i dont guess im seeing all the ***** you speak of.... all im seeing is 3 stages of timing retard thats used based on time when the 12v source is let go...
is there an update for it that i dont have?

if i can use BS3 and do what i need to do thats great id rather not drop another 1300-1500$....
but 3stages of timing retard just doesnt seem enough along with that it seems that once you use the timing retard function i dont think you can use the boost controller.... the boost controller itself looks a little out of date also compared to the ams1000...

The timing retard is part of the boost control. And yes you are limited to 3 stages, time based from the point the timer is enabled.
I don't use the BS3 boost control, i use my one digital controller so I can't really comment on how well it works. I do use the retard stages in the radial car though.
You can do quite a bit with just the retard tables and the starting line timing table. The latest firmware with the updated 2 step algo helps spool quite a bit.

well it makes a little more sense that your running a boost controller cause instead of dropping power with the timing retard your dropping it with the boost controller... you probably only pull timing on the starting line and maybe at the finish line... the rest you do with the boost controller...

Radial car = Tom Kempf's car. It's been a best ET of 7.82, 187 ish MPH at 3500 lbs, 315 tire.
all the "playing" happens is 1st gear, after that the 101 is done.

you selling those controllers? i'd be interrested to check it out as im in the market for one...
if your only fiddling with boost and timing in first gear you need a bigger turbo or twins... if that thing isnt trying to slide around in high gear thats just not fun... lol

We know the turbo is too small. That's being fixed
Once we started to get the car sorted, it's back in the low 1.30's and going 5.teens @ 148 ish.
Boost controller is not in a general user friendly state at the moment. Still working on the laptop side stuff, and the onboard GUI. Also would like the get the secondary control channel in there, and the nested control based on manifold pressure. But that really don't mean much to the general population
