Default Steel Braided Hose Vs Plastic Looms

I've heard of people using Braided hose for long runs of wiring in the engine bay with a bulkhead fitting on the firewall instead of the plastic wiring looms, they say in case of fire or fluid spills it is safer.

Any word on this?

.

I've been on fire, trust me the last thing I was worried about was a few dollars worth of wiring.

My thoughts, too expensive & too heavy. I would rather let air surround my wiring for cooling. If it's all home runs & no half *** patches, I wouldn't worry about spills.
