tire selection....i want my 60 fts back!
welp im at a point where i dunno what to do....i want to get my 60 fts back!!!!
ive had a 275/50/15 mt dr on the car.....went pretty good still i started spraying out the hole....had traction problems on spray best 60 ft was a 1.46
went to a 275/60/15 and it hooked pretty good on occasion till they are worn down...best 60 ft was a 1.50
when i went to a 275/60 it felt like it got the wind knocked outta it in 3rd gear spraying....i have 3.70 gear in my 9 inch with a 4l60e...footbraking...
i actually lost 2-3 tenths going to a 9 inch and 28in tall tire over a 26 and a 3.73 10bolt...the loss of 60 ft was due to the tire and gear is my guess and the ~60lbs extra of the rear
here are my options that im thinking of.....if you got an option let me know!!!
28x11.5 hoosier qtp....a lot lighter tire than a dr
keep my 275/60/15 mt dr (28x11.5)
27x11.5 hoosier qtp (smaller dia with decent meat)
255/60/15 mt dr (27x10.5)
or what would you recommend??
i want to get back in to the mid 1.4 range again....
car is driven to the track and back....dont care if its a wrinkle wall or not since im not going long distances (under an hour tops) and its driven on nice days on the street....maybe 3-4 times a month

IMO, if you want it to run 100% at the track skip the dot tires and go strait to a slick, just get another set of tires to run on the street, 2nd set of rear rims to swap at a minimum, that type of thing.
Also, if you were running a 3.73 with a 26 inch tire, and now have a 3.70 with a 28, that's alot of your loss right there. Swap in some 3.89's in the rear and it will pick right back up.

That will help some, but I'd go with the 28 to get the 100% hook and gear accordingly.
Remember bias ply tires grow at the top end about an inch to 2 inches, depending on the tire/speed.
If you want to do a bias ply slick, try a set of m/t 28x10.5x15S et drags, the stiff sidewall is better for a heavier car and will drive a little better on the top end, and will grow a little less. I put a set on my car from the 275/60 goodyear radials I was running, before I couldn't even use the transbrake, now I can leave off the brake @ 5400 rpm and it hooks good and leaves hard.
here's proof:

1.44 60 foot n/a We will see what a 100 shot off the transbrake will do at the end of the month

i guess i should keep my 28s and put more gear up under it.....i guess my 28s arnt hooking now cuz there is not a lotta meat on them...wear bars are long gone
with more tread on the tires and a 3.89 gear it should be back where its should be....
next week im gonna rip bout 100-150 lbs outta it...so hopefully after tires and a gear change ill have be back where i should be at if not faster...i just wanna push the stock 99 heads and ls1 intake and tb as far as it will go.....its gone 10.97@125 already....sits around a 11.1x-11.2x now....
