How fast is fast now??

it really depends on where you are located because in some places there are a helluvalot of fast cars.. where im at there are alot of 12 sec cars on the motor which usually means they will run mid to high 11s on the gas. i would say to be *** stomping fast these days you should run a mid ten to a high 9. Then youre not too worried about anyone beating you. But you know there is always some old guy out there with his 7 sec old school waiting to spank you...

Low 10's is almost there anymore at the track. On the street not necessarily et but mph from my experience because mostly go from roll but then I also know a car that runs low 12's at 112-114 and can dead hook anywhere and beats a lot of faster 10 second cars because cant hook.

Yeah... Back in 1993 I had a 12.80 Astro-van...
and I really cleaned up....
I made enough to pay for the motor installed by myself (a 383 Lingenfelter built emissions legal for a TBI 4.3 no less!!!) in less than a year!
Now I'd be hard pressed to beat any FWD import junk!
I saw the writing on the wall and sold it before I got beat too much though!
The guy I sold it to put a 125 shot on it and is STILL going 12.00s!!! 9 years later!!!

Around here 8's and 9's for the most part is considerd fast. On the motor the guys in the 10's get put in the same group if they are Nitrous cars.
Still have plenty of cars slower then that though.
Cars in the 8's and faster starting to pop up, one in the 6's thats on the street sometimes.

do you mean fast for a daily driver? fast for a registered car? or fast or a philly fake streeter?
there are a lot of kinds of fast to consider. for a daily driver, i woudl say bottom 12's are still a pretty fast number. most people go beater hunting before they see 11's unless they are lucky and have a 100yard commute each day.
for a registered car that sees some street use or is capable of making the drive to and from the track, i woudl say that low 11's and into the 10's is a reasonable number to call fast.
for a "street" car in title or purchased stickers only, i woudl consider bottom 9's the entry level. anyone from jers-philly-del knows what i am talking about. a one seat tin can with a huge motor that almost runs right on pump gas that the owner will talk up and down about what a great street car it is even though it doesn't have wipers or larger than a 5 gallon fuel cell. lol

To me having a 11 to 12 second car is fast for a daily driver. Having a street legal 9 to 10 second car is just sick thats faster than most street bikes. My 04 GSXR 1000 ran a 9.4 @149 with a full Hindle and air shifter.

Im talking about street cars.. Here in philly we have some 9 second streetcars and a few 8 seconds on spray.. But it is stupid to try to run them if your not at the track.. Its true that low 11 second cars can and will beat one of these 8 or 9 second cars just because of them over powering the road..
I drive my street-er like a grand-mom on the streets but beat the ***** off it at the track..

6 second car has working lights and a plate and all and is on the street sometimes.
Most of the single digit guys around here hook just fine on the street but its rare for them to run on the street.
Agreed that a slower hooking car can beat a faster one that can't hook. Ive seen it done many times, HOWEVER a 11 second car hooking beating a 8 or 9 sec car is pushing it, cars that quick make up a ton of ground once they hook. They would have to blow the tires off BADDDDDD.
I liked watching 400rwhp+ 6 speed cars race on street tires against slower automatic cars
We have a show car/race car fox notch mustacg that took first place if I remember at a rescent NMCA show and also raced that ran like 7.8's and he drives it quite a bit on the street.

For a street car mid-low 11's is mandatory to compete.
To be able to win consistantly high-mid 10's is a must.
To wow the crowd you gotta go high-mid 9's.
And to blow everyones mind you gotta go mid 8's to high 7's. (there are a few around here that go 8's. One that i know of in particular that goes 8.6 on the motor, and 7.4's on the unit ON THE STREET!!)
The track is a different story.

man, just a matter of 6 or 7 years ago, if you had an 11 second car, that **** was pretty damned fast. now days, 11's arent ****. I personally feel if my car runs 11's on the motor with heads cam, its doing OK. Put the unit on it, and run in the 10's. That to me is moving out, but in comparative terms, its not a whole lot anymore.....
