saw some mixed opinions on threads some from back in 06....ive got a 60-e but im bout to take the car off street duty and make it track only...id as of now its 1.4x 60' its a cam only car with 200 shot...runs mid 6's this off the footbrake with a 60-e
thinking about going glide and picking up the usage of a TB which i was hoping with the nitrous would keep my 60' the same and pick up something prolly on the big end....is this going to hurt me a lot or no?
anyone actually done a 60-e or 350 to glide swap? what is your hp/tq and et changes
i know some1 one here i forgot his name but he has a black trans am just did a turbo build and he went from a 700 to a glide and picked up some...but that was a built motor and n20...
my cars about 3000 i think without me...im 200...remember the glide would drop 60 pounds i think...and the converter would drop some...along with me taking out some more weight....think i might make it close to 3050 raceweight....
with the 200 shot i make a tad under 600 through my auto unlocked

Your car will 60ft slower with a glide, you're talking about going from a 3.06 first gear ratio to a 1.78
You gain performance from a glide because it weighs less and has less rotational mass.
My friends car I work on has a glide, it has a 6k stall and revs to 8200. I don't think you'd gain performance until you made more power or got the car to weigh less.
It makes close to 800 hp on the motor n/a.
You'll also have much more rpm drop between the shift.

Where a glide primary helps you is its light yes but its the high 1st gear. If your car has alot of power to pull the car out of the hole and get it going you can 60 better most cases then with your 60'e. you have less chance of blowing the tires off the car. Thats were I noticed it the most. you will probably need more motor for the glide. I would stick with the 350. 400 is bullet proof but robes alot of power.

As mentioned above, the glide will drop some weight and rotational mass, but the drop numerically in first gear and gear multiplication may hurt a little. Glides are good for the launch as it is not as violent as say a 3-speed or 4-speed auto due to the gear ratio drop. Make sure to gear the car appropriately and use the right converter.
Don't forget you can always go TH400 for a good transmission with a brake that will hold plenty of power. I'd stay away from a TH350 if you want to use a brake, although a TH350 can be built to also hold the power you are making.

I have a TH350 with new internals and a pro tree tb. Built to handle 600hp. It needs some welding or a case. The front housing is cracked. And I have a 5k stall that can go with it. I'll sell the whole thing for 600.

I have a similar setup with a glide and it works great. I 60' better off the foot brake than the trans brake when I'm on the bottle. 1.37 is my best so far. and that wa with 3:55's and 325-50 DR's. I say go for it.

At your level, I'd say your a perfect candidate for a TH400 swap. I think teh glide is a great tranny, and I'd actually like to try one in my car, but unless you're making 700hp, I would stick with a th400. Th350's are a great tranny for n/a stuff, but you strt spraying with them and want to run a transbrake, they're not at Th400 strenth. don't get all too concerned with the TH400 power loss, it's probably no worse then your 4ljunkie tranny with the converter unlocked, and it's soooo much stronger, you probably can build one good and run it for 4 years at your current speed.

yall guys really think it will hurt me that bad 150 shot off the t-brake as opposed to my footbraking it now...?
im goana pick up prolly 20 hp with the glide and the use of a t-brake with a power adder....yall are making me secoond guess it...i just would like to do it now for weight and consistancy...id hate to do a 3 speed now and want to change later...although i think im at the stock motors limit

You're missing the point, max torque x rear gear ratio x trans ratio, multiply your estimated max power times 2.52 or 2.48 vs. 1.78, the gain you'll net won't come from 1st gear.
Personally if you did a tranny swap I would go th400 with a transbrake.

Put a Glide in it if you plan on running the nitrous alot and if the car is as light as you are saying. It will tame the launch down so you can put down alot of power early in the run. You will go faster with the Glide and the nitrous than you ever did with your 4l60e.

i understand how long first gear is with the mph calculator...and i know they make gearsets for it like 1.76 1.96 ect....which i know would also help it out some....

If you do some research on the cars that run the drag week and some other street races, you will find theer are quite a few cars running glides and some are even streetable. The reason I choose the glide and the long torque arm is I want to leave of the transbreak and fogger. But if your not making that much power you may 60' better with a 350 or 400.
If your going to leave the line on the bottle more then n/a passes try the glide.

Problem with the 1.96 gear ratio is the rpm drop will be too much when you shift I think, and will kill the car out of the powerband.
At your power level, I'd say the car needs to be under 3000 lbs with you in it to really have a glide shine. Don't get me wrong you will go faster with a glide then a 4ljunkie, but I think you'd go even faster with a th400, at least until you're at the 800 hp mark, and even then the 3 speed will be faster as long as the car is leaving in a controllable state.
FWIW I am running a th400 with a 13.5 to1 402 and spray a 150 hit right off the transbrake, with a converter that goes to 5400 with my foot to the floor and the brake on, which is how I leave every time

We put a glide in my '99 right before the LSX Shootout in Memphis, with 3.70 rear gears. We did a 1.29 60ft there after swapping out converters. I never thought it would leave that hard on a glide. We then took some fuel out of the tune and put in fresh plugs, and that is when it stood up on the rear bumper. It didn't hurt second gear's performance either, as can be seen here. Bob

I'd go TH400 to keep good gearing, but if you are making 700- 1000 hp a glide might be a good way as noted to have the car hit less hard on the line but then again you have to sit down and look at the trans gearing vs. the rear gearing.
