reasonable 60' time... TIMESLIP ON PAGE 2
whats up guys? i'm goin to the track this weekend with my trans am and i still havent gotten my tax return so theres no money for drag radials yet!! what can i do to improve my 60' on 255/50r16??
i have a mildly built 350 w/ tpi, a 3200stall converter and an adjustable torque arm!!
ive tried stalling it at 3150rpms and when i get off the brake all you see is a huge cloud of smoke, i get out of the hole fast but i dont think its fast enought to break into the 1.9Xs, i still have the 2.73 gears btw!!
do you guys think i should lower the tire pressure to somewhere around 18lbs?? stall at 2k?? please help, i'm not tryin to embarrase myself just yet!

It's really hard to launch consistantly on street tires and not DRs. IMO, a 1.9 is great for street tires. Try flashing from idle, or stalling to 1k if 2k still blows the tires off.

#1 - don't stall it much higher than 1500-2000. You want the suspension to work, not get the car so high on the stall that it "pushes" off the line instead of "launching."
#2 - Roll into the throttle. This takes practice for what it will hold. I've gone 1.701 on regular street tires in my Nova with decent suspension for weight transfer, and it's all a matter of balancing how much to modulate the pedal.
2.00 or better is a good 60 foot for non-drag radials IMHO. Good luck!

ok so i guess ill be launchin at around 1200rpms, i'm just gonna go to have a good time!
BUT i just got my tax returns so i need some drag radials now!! which ones would you recommend?? i read somewhere that the NITTOs 555 or w/e are not the best ones out there and wont get a good 60',
i will be mounting them on 2 speare 16x10" rims
what do you have? and how do you like them?? any advice is welcome!

well the rims that i have are not the ones that i'm gonna be using daily, everytime i go to the track i will change them!
i did found some MT DR 26x10.5x16 and 27x11.5x16, what size should i go with??
The thing that i dont like about the nittos is that they only make 245r50-16 and not anything bigger for 16" rims!

I would never drop a street tire to 18psi, it's not designed like a drag tire, street tires work way better with full air vs. dropping pressure, it'll cup the tire.
Since you have a spare set of rims I would go with the M/T drag radials. I would get the 26" ones since you don't have much gear, if you were going to add more gear or some nitrous I would try the 27"
They work great my friend has ran 8.30's in the 1/4 mile on a little 275 60 15.

worse, street tires are made of a different compound than drag tires, so heating them up will only make them greasy an slick, so just do a small one to clean them off, thats it.
