Is anyone using the aerospace street version brakes, and where did you purchase them. Thanks

I just bought the race version from Billingsley as well. Have not mounted them yet, but they are seriously light! If you are going to do a lot of street driving, I'd get the street versions because the rotors will take it better.

I am going to get the street version, because I split my time between track and street. The only reason I asked is where to buy is because I saw Jeg's is starting to sell aerospace brake kits and I think they are rather less expensive than Billengsley. I haven't been able t check since their site is down. Just trying to do some homework.

Correct me here if I'm wrong but shouldn't the race version be made to withstand more vigorus stopping capability than the street version? Wouldn't you need better quality rotors and pads to stop from 150 mph racing verses 70 mph street breaking? Seems to me the race version would be an even better choice for street?

It is my understanding that the race version is lighter and the rotors are thinner than the street version. The race version is design for limited use and will heat up fast while driving on the streets. However, a few drive it on the street. The street version is designed for more stops. Hopes this helps. You can also reach Aerospace directly at:727-347-9915. I have their race brakes on both of my Mustangs. The race brakes will handle a little street driving, but repeated stops will warp the rotors BAD. They are made to slow you down from 180+ ONCE!

Is there any advantage to the Strange race brakes for the extra $$$$cash$$$$ ?

Are the Aerospace brakes a direct bolt on or is there some trimming needed?

Thanks
Tom

I run the drag race brakes on the street, they are OK as long as you do mostly highway driving. No warped rotors yet. The strange brakes offer new hubs which save another 2-3#, but you lose ABS with the strange brakes. I saved 30# with the aerospace kit.

The Aerospace brakes from Billingsly require the use of the new backing plates both front and rear. Other than that it's a direct bolt on. I'm putting mine on today, finally got the car going back together!! I'll post pics as usual when they are done.

The street version weights about 9 pounds lighter than stock on each side for a total weight savings of 18 pounds.

Where is all the weight savings? In the rotors, calibers? Our calibers are aluminum from the factory. Can't see much weight savings there.

The Baer Eradispeed Rotors are suppose to be a weight savings with their aluminum hub and drilled rotors. Don't know how much savings but wouldn't that be a better alternative?

On the drag kit you save 10# each rotor and 5# each caliper.

Wow! I wouldn't have though our calibers even weigh 5 pounds each. 30 pounds is quite a weight savings with the front only race version.

If you only did the rear brakes, how much weight would you save? Drag kit? Street kit?

If you only did the rears, would you maintain most of your braking power? How much do the rear brakes contribute to overall braking?

If you installed the drag brakes, could you install brake ducts to keep them cool and prevent warping?

The rear kits are cheaper, you drop some unsprung weight, and reduce rotating mass in the drivetrain! Any other pros/cons?

The stock fronts are 4-pistons and pretty heavy (around 10# each). The drag front calipers are 2-piston and only 5# each.

Will either of these (street - race) take up any more space than the stock setups? In other words, will my Bogarts or Welds clear??

Thanks!

Your Bogarts and Welds will fit fine. I just put on a set of Weld Aluma Stars and those are the tightest fitting wheels there are. They fit absolutely fine. Stopping force with the race brakes is awesome!

I'll take some pictures of the calipers on the car, but for now here are some pictures of what comes with the front and rear race brake kit from Billingsley Racing minus the manual brake cylinder. Notice that the backing plates are already on my axles (I did that earlier) and the fronts will require the new backing plates provided. You will need to put a small notch in the bottom ear of the front stock caliper brackets. The stock calipers will still work if you leave enough material there. I'll be sure to snap a picture of that too.
