Make it more sturdy? You have to be kidding me.
I swissed my kirkey's, dropped about 3.5 lbs for the pair. It cost whatever you pay for your hole saw for your drill and go to town.
You can probably save more weight be being creative with your seat brackets. Some good 2" angle aluminum will do the trick.
Here is one I still need to clean up.

thats nice and clean. the only reason i put the sturdy in there is because i seen somewhere that a guy did this but he used a different style hole saw. the difference in hole was that it like flared the holes out the back which i guess kinda pulled the metal tighter making the seat stiffer. i was looking into one of 2 seats either the kirky pro comp seats or the corbeau fx1 pro. money isnt an issue. give em your opinions.

In my opinion, and just my opinion. That is not one of the best places to save a few pounds. We use aluminum L brackets to mount the seats. They are very light and sturdy. They will also be mounted to the cross bar.
In a wreck, I wan the whole seat there to save my ***, not a vented lawn chair. Just my .02.

I agree with steve on this one, doing that to the drivers seat, not something I would ever really consider.
Now the passenger's side, where there's never anyone sitting and the seat is just there for classes that require it, that side I will punch all kinds of holes into, and won't lose any sleep over it.

It's a tough call, for show I wouldn't swiss cheese. I had the Corbeau CR1's before I decided to go this route. They were very nice. I would probably do them for more of a show/driver type car and the kirkey's if weight reduction is on your mind everytime you look at the car like me.

someone around here did that (it might have been harlan), and said it was just as rigid, if not more rigid than before. i still wonder in an accident though too, as i haven't sat in one that's been done. maybe i'll try it for my passenger seat first.
