Default a/c box?

ok i am removing the a/c from my car. the big box on the firewall (evap core) is the heater core in there, can it be removed and but leaving the heater core?

The heater core is in the half of the box on the inside of the firewall, under the dash.

You have to cut the box in half to get rid of the outer half, and put a blockoff plate in the big hole in the firewall. There are some threads and pictures on here about it.

Some people just run an aftermarket heater, and do away with all the stock parts.

so you car run the block off plate and heep the heater.

I took mine out and the blockoff plate I mounted the coil to it

how do you get the box off???do you have to pull the dash??

You might be able to get it out without pulling the dash. I had my dash out already for some rewiring work I was doing.

Also, there is an extension to the heater box, that goes over the transmission hump, under the middle of the dash. There is one bolt from the engine side that goes right into the middle of that extension. Most people end up breaking that part of the box to get it out, since the bolt isn't accessible with the engine in the car.

Here's a long thread about this subject. It's in the LT1 section, but it applies to the LS1 cars too.
