PT4000 report back / foot brake won't hold it
Went to the track last night and reporting back on my gains as promised.
1st run I launched easy at 1800-2000 rpm: ET : 11.7 @ +1200 DA / MPH: 116 / 60': 1.70
2nd run I tried to launch well above 3000 rpm and the foot brake just wouldn't hold it and I red-lighted (disappointing run): ET : 13.3 @ +800 DA / MPH: 115/ 60': 3.23
My best run with the Yank SS3600 as hard as I could launch was: ET : 11.7 @ +1200 DA / MPH: 116 / 60': 1.70
Ordering a linelock today. With a line lock and 3500-4000 launch, I think it's got left in it 1.5 60' ... 11.5 ET ... maybe 120 mph.
Sorry I couldn't report back the full potential of the new PT4000. As said, the foot brake just simply won't hold the car back anymore. I think my frist run was a pretty respectable gain first-time out launching easy. Oh yeah, it seemed like upping the rears to 19 psi helped the MT DR's with traction ... pretty light maybe 2-3 second burnout.
Thanks for those of you weho have encouraged me so much.

a line lock is NOT what you need. it will make you do a burnout lol.
let the converter do its job. it should hammer from a flash stall. remember that converter is designed to flash to about 4000 rpms, so instantly, the converter will be at 4000 rpms and start rising after that.
are you going WOT after the launch? 1.70 is slow for that conveter and your power.

PT4000 report back / foot brake won't hold it
I have had my best numbers with the PT4000 by leaving at 1500 rpms. I have tried 1800 to 2400 and always went slower. I tried to stall it up higher and at 2700 the front tires begin to slide through the lights. Also, NEVER try to leave from the line lock. If it ever fails to release, you are going into the wall. At most tracks, if a track official notices that you are trying to leave from the line lock you will be thrown out.

On my pt4000, I've been just holding it to about 2500, then nailing the throttle . I've been told by a friend that holding it to its stall speed while waiting for the green is very hard on the converter. When you nail the throttle, it will immediately flash to its stall speed.

Thanks for all the good info. The shop owner I deal with recommended a line lock when I had the SS3600. He indicated the car is at the level I should seriously consdier one.
Me being fairly new to racing my car ... always been around and loved racing ... just new at driving and gratefully fulfilling my dream of racing my own car. I am very fortunate to be able to do what I've always wanted.
I'll research more info on the purpose of a linelock kit to see where they are beneficial ... sounds like I missed out on something ... with several conversations I've heard and things I've read about them. So, it's primary beneift is not to hold the car's brake rotors to launch off of?
Driver mod and suspension adjustments are what I really need to work on. Last night I does as I always do .. just at lesser rpm's. I launched at about 1800-2000 rpm ans rolled into the throttle. I've never stalled it up at ANY rpm level and then just stomped the **** out of it. I'll try it out next time out to the track. He'll, maybe that's where I'm missing it!
I'll try to flash it from idle, as well. I did find last night that the tires for my particular car really like the tire pressure of 19 psi (cold). I'm learning and hope to be able to launch my car as most of you all do.
Thanks for all the advice and keep it coming if you think you have something to help me out with my launches.

I once in awhile try to bring the Red car up to high (rpm) at the tree and it pushes through the beams, I just have to remind myself to be easy on the stall speed (2000-2200)and the car launches real hard.

Jake, with those mickey thompsons, you should be able to hit the gas pedal immediately when you launch. With that converter AND 3.73s you should be doing 1.5 60's, I was getting 1.7s with 2.73s. Just footbrake the car till you feel the rearend situp and launch from there, worked for me everytime.
I had my linelock put in a week ago but it's only for burnouts, never use it to launch from the line like previously stated. It only holds the front brakes and releases the rear brakes so you won't burn through the pads when you are doing a burnout. Just sounds like it to me that you need to see what the car likes as far as leaving the line.

Dang-it! LOL! No wonder I'm stuck at a 1.7 60' time ... I could kick myself ... was just always afraid of wasting a run because I though that would blow the tires of the car. Thanks for the pointers fellows. I guess my first couple of times racing last fall made me really paranoid. It Wednesday night/ricer night and I was spinning pretty bad. I was backing too far into the water box and didn't know to leave in the groove of a few big slick cars. I'm getting comfortable with everything now. Caveman's given me some very helpful advice along the way and it's helped a lot.

ummm yea. floor the go pedal! if you have the right tires (and i have always said to ditch those 17" wheels if you are into drag racing) then the converter will do its job. i always kinda chuckled as i have been following your posts and progression when you said you didnt need a bigger drag tire and how it will slow you down. my car is a 10 second car and i love running these 325 massive radials. they dont ****** spin!
sounds like you are having fun and learning a bunch about your car.
