Would any local places (Napa, etc) carry the band by the bearing for my axles?

I need to press off my bearings on my 33 spline Strange axles to install some brakes, but I need what Chuck Burkhart called the "wedding band" that goes by the bearing. My axles are almost 1 9/16" where the bearing rides. Can I get these at a local store or do they have to be ordered from Strange?

i just went through this today except for i have a moser rear. i had no luck finding it or bearings so i ended up cutting the stock backing plate off and will just cut a notch in the new plate big enough to get on the axle. the stock backing plate cut easier than i thought it would. 10 minutes and very careful with the sawzall not to hit the bearing and they were off. i know i could have sold the stock backing plates but this way i saved money on buying new bearings since these only have maybe 100 miles on them anyway.

depends on which bearing you have... either way you cannot purchase the ring seperately.
if it is the ball bearing type(o-ring on o.d. of bearing) you will have to buy a replacement bearing from Strange. if you have a tapered bearing and a 1.562 axle shaft, a Timken set 20 is the bearing you need. they are available at most parts stores.

Depending on the condition of the bearings, you can order the wedding bands for about 10.00 a set from Moser or Strange. I doubt you can get them local.
Call Chuck, he may have some around the shop. Not sore but worth a try.

What a ******* mess.......
The Timken BR20 is the correct bearing, comes with the lock ring. This was the info Strange gave me. I got them at the local Napa. $115, ouch.
BUT, the ******* lock ring has a larger OD than the axle tube ID. Had to have it machined down on a lathe. Hopefully I can sell my backing plates to help recoupe the costs.
So after all that, I got the axles in. When I put the bracket up against the bearing it sits about 1/16" away from the housing end. I just put the bolts in and cranked them down. Maybe thats right, maybe not. At this point I hope I break the goddamn thing in half to teach it a lesson.
