Default LIGHT weight hoods with hood pins?

I'm debating between going with hood pins or dzus fasteners. For those of you that are using hood pins, do you have any problems with the hood flexing in the wind? I prefer the look of hood pins, but I can't decide if the difference would be worth the hood flex. My car is a weekend warrior, so it see's just as much street time as it does track time.

Also, if anyone has pictures of their hoods, I'd like to see those as well.

I did hood pins on my WS6 hood. Pic's and "how-to" on my web site.

I have the VFN 3" SS pin-on hood. I used

I used the Mr Gasket torsion pin kit..

Part# 720-1017 $9.69 for a pack of 2 pins and scuff plates from jegs.

I've had no problem with the hood wanting to lift off, had the car up to 130+ mph with it. You just have to make sure that when the hood is closed it flush with the nose and fenders. You don't want to be scooping air in any seams etc.

I was worried about that too, I drive my car everyday. So far so good, haven't had any troubles.

I have a light weight SS hood but it is a bolton and saves about 25 lbs. I started to use pins to fastened the front of the hood down, but at the last minute I decided against it. I did not want the hood flopping at high speed. It works OK, but the other route saves weight--most likely 10 to 15 more lbs. Cheers.....

Any pics? what brand? I'd love a light weight SS hood that looks like the stock ss hood.

The brand is VFN which is a sponsor to the right. I purchase mine on a general purchase for $500. Hood was painted to match car and to me it looks factory. If I have time in a day or two, I will take some pictures. I got the hood to save weight at the track, however; you will loose the ram air on the hood--if this matters to you. If there are any more questions--just asked.

I don't use the ram air in the hood so that's no big deal. Does it still have the opening or is the scoop closed in? I've seen some where the scoop is closed in and I think it kinda looks dumb with no opening. Thanks for the reply.

I don't remember which hood-pin kit I used, but it was a MR. Gasket kit with the safety pins. Used Todd's instructions as a guide and it works great. Only problem is I didn't get stainless steel or aluminum so my scuff plates rust .

Nice write-up on your site Todd! Everyone, thanks for the pictures, your cars all look great.

Has anyone had any problems with hood flex at all?

I hope FEAR THE LS1 doesn't mind here, but I moved the hoodpins on his car to show where I'd like to have the pins. Would anyone forsee any strength issues with putting the pins here?

Explained what you did to the scoop. I really like what you did. Is it functional or just dressed up. Cheers.

That's just a quick chop and paste in a photo editing program, that hasn't been done to the best of my knowledge. I'd always figured I'd do something like that if I ended up getting a hood like that.

How much weight did you save by going with the hood pins? Did you take out the factory hood fastening system? I have the same hood, but did not do the hood pins, but I may.

These are a couple photos of my Camaro with a pin on carbon fiber hood from VFN. It weighs in at about 7 lbs with paint and pins. As you can see it is curled a little on the corners. I used aluminum pins for the weight savings that they give. My car weighs 2940 lbs with an LT1, both bumpers, factory drivers seat, and me in it 180 lbs.
