It's good to see others who actually enjoy bracket racing. I'd prefer to chase but I really do not care because I usually never look at the other guy until I catch him at the end.

Some people say heads up is better racing but I disagree. You get a field of 20-25 good bracket racers together and they is no closer racing. We have just started our own little group of bracket racers for efi only cars http://efiracing.proboards92.com/index.cgi? and we are running a 5 race series and keeping points and we have some bracket killers racers in our group. We run our little deal with the regular Sat. night program. Not much payout right now but it grows a little more every race.

Chase.

But it doesn't bother me to run for my life.

Could be worse.... Try a 12.499 on a 12.50 index, final round.

Chase down. Their car is already going to be in it to win it, so you can judge how far you have to push your car. Being chased is kind of tricky because you dont know how hard they are on the throttle or how their car is going to run on the back half. Like others said its easier to judge a slower car infront of you, than a faster car behind you.

With my automatic cars I always raced my own race. I know what the car does and It was close enough to win me a trophy. If I wanna be sneaky. I can write lets say a 12.[Blank] and when I roll to the line, I write the rest in based on what the test runs were. Then guessed on any adjustment based on the air quality.

When I race, I am racing my time, im not worried bout the other guy.

BUT when racing an index, its better to be faster and slow down or if its hot, the car can be dead on.

Each brand has their own spot in drag racing. I get bored with making passes and don't have the coin to heads up race so I love the competition of bracket racing.

In the KY/OH area there are some racers. We pull it tight at the stripe, if I take it over .01 I haven't done my job. I've won 2 races by .000X in 2 years of racing.

Can't really make the call here. I've been chased more than being the chaser, doesn't matter to me. The great thing about bracket racing is each guy has an equal shot when the lights come down.

I'll say this, chasing can be a bit easier because the "already mentioned" thing of seeing your opponent in front of you instead of turning around to find them while going downtrack.

But on the flip side, there's something about beating an 8 second electronics-equipped dragster with your 13 second street car you drove to the track.

We've got one of the best around at our local track... He runs a Chevrolet Van, last weekend he got runner up in box (yes, box) with no delay box dialed 11.15 (1/8 mile) all night. He deep stages and kills the tree and nails the brakes at the big end. He's won some big money races but mostly stays local. He's won in a Corsica, Van, Nova, Camaro and a freaking RV down there.

I've seen him beat $60,000 dollar dragsters running 4's in his old Corsica.

I like to chase but the majority of the time in my Firebird I was being chased and honestly I got a lot of freebie rounds because of the other person red lighting. In most of my electronic racing I was chasing most of the time though.

I race for fun & like heads up. Sometimes you win & sometimes you loose.

If I have to bracket race like Camaro/Firebird day. I would rather chase. I like having the faster car.

You really have the advantage at the tree if you are the slower car, because you are not distracted by the other car leaving. But if your the faster car, and your dial-in time is greater than what you can run, you have some room to play (sand bagging). No, its no right but people do it. But I like heads up racing the best, it is by far the most fun for me anyway.

I hate passing the other guy right before the line and then finding out that he had broken out so you just broke out worse.

How is it not right? If you plaster me on the tree and run the number, all the bagging in the world won't save me. The best bracket racers out there bag, part of the game.

Hard to say which I prefer... There are so many different strategies to bracket racing that is what makes it fun. In heads up, there is only 1 real strategy-- get there first, regardless. In brackets, i'll dial it what I know it'll run because I can always hit the brakes, I can't get out and push. Apart from that I just try and win by as little as possible. If the guy comes flying by me and there is noway I can get back around him--on the brakes. If I'm running the guy down and there is noway I can catch him--on the brakes. The best bracket racer I know around here wins about every freakin race he enters. He also runs Super Gas and has won the NHRA Mid-South Nationals twice. He follows similiar principles, so I figure if it works for him I'll give em a try. I've seen him win races by x ten-thousandths of a second, and against probably the second best bracket racer around who drives old STOCK chevy chavaliers.

Thats how the "king of the track" race went down a couple years back at Memphis. The winner in Super Pro has to race the winner in Pro bracket. Here it is, a 5.60 second Dart against a 10.85 Cavalier. At the stripe he halfway pedaled it, I mean just a burp of the trottle. MOV was .0003 and both had near perfect lights and ran dead on with 0's. He told me later, he just blipped it because he felt he needed to and it worked because he was the winner and got a good payout. Think you like chasing cars down? Hows a 90 mph 5 second spot in the 1/8 sound?...its like racing a parked car. There is noway to judge it, not with the human body at least. I know I couldn't.

I prefer to be chased. When the other car is in front of me it distracts me. Definitely something I need to work on and get some more seat time with.

I especially like it when I leave first and end up chasing at the end because these cars mph so well. Thats happened to me a few times this year already. (i'm on stock 3.23s so others get off the line a little quicker)
