Default Mickeys wearing out?

Went to the track tonight for the second time this season. I'm working on the right launch technique with my new converter (Yank SS3600).

The last time I went to the track - first time with the new converter - I was able to hook. But tonight I just spun every time. My Mickeys are 3 years old and are almost down to the wear bars. I noticed that they barely smoked tonight after the first burnout - and these were long burnouts.

It was test & tune night and I'm sure the track prep was lousy. But other guys seemed to be hooking. I remember my Nittos became useless when they were about 50% worn. Is the sticky portion of tread gone on these Mickeys?

They're drag radials by the way ... anyone have experience with them wearing out?

Yes, 255 on 8's. I usually can hook at 20-22. Last night I went down to 17 and was the same spin show. What was odd was except for the first time, the tires didn't seem to smoke during the burnouts. Just sat there and spun.

I run about the same in my 275/50/15s 22-24lbs. hot. You sure you where far enough out of the water box? I usually wait until the guy tells me to stop, and then move up another 6-12 inches, just to make sure. I want them wet, but not still sitting in a puddle. Who knows, maybe it is time for a new set. You street drive these? Maybe they have seen to many heat cycles.

Yes, I know enough to not to attempt a burnout in the water box! I have street driven them for weeks at a time in summer when it's dry and no threat of rain.

The more I think about it, last year when I went to a "Friday Night Test & Tune", I couldn't hook either. But it had rained earlier that day and the track was moist. I don't think they prep the track worth a damn for these because it's 90% street cars. I can dead hook on good prep, but last night was a joke. Pretty embarrassing.

My point wasn't that you where doing a burnout in the water box, and I apoligize if you took it that way. My point is that I don't always trust the guy at the water box and move up a little to make sure. Good luck.

Radials aren't as forgiving as slicks or bias ply ET Streets, especially in the summer. If they haven't been through a bunch of heat cycles, I'd give them another shot to eliminate crappy track prep (check the track out before you make a run next time you go and see how sticky it is).

If that's the case, then maybe track prep was the culprit. Or maybe I backed in too deep to the water box and got them too wet. I definitely moved up and out of it, but maybe it was too much.

From what's been said, there should be more in them ... I'm going to take them out again and see what happens. I don't want to buy a new pair this summer ...
