Re: Attention all T-Top cars
quote from a guy on corvetteforum.com:
I just got off the phone with John Miller Tech Service Rep for NHRA National Headquarters , in Glendora Cal. and he stated
" At this time there is no change to the glass/t-top rules, they will be considered a coupe and require a roll bar at 11.99, same as in the past"
He did tell me this was discussed at this past Tuesday rules meeting but no changes will be made now or in the near future.
So everyone relax, it's business as usual.
And a reply from somebody else:
You are correct. THIS IS NOT A NEW NHRA RULE!!! Ths was enforced at a track in Houston recently though (HRP) HRP was enforcing that t top cars running faster than 14.0 must have a roll cage. This was not a NHRA rule, they were enforcing this FOR THEIR OWN INSURANCE REASONS. Please do not get paranoid, unless you race at HRP you have nothing to worry about...

Apparently this may not be as cast in stone as people think.

Thanks for the info Jim....I certainly hope (and believe) your info is correct.
Rick...what tracks are enforcing this other than HRP?

Not the first time I've been bitten by an internet rumor.
I guess I need to up my dose of Lithium.
Sorry to any NHRA officials I offended. I'll stick to insulting them in person from now on.

Re: Attention all T-Top cars
lol, some of you guys crack me up. But this rule really does suck ***. I am putting a cam in my car sunday and now I can't even test it out on the track. What is the closest IHRA tack to houston anyways? I've never been anywhere but HRP and I don't really care for 1/8 mile but maybe thats what I'll be forced to do now. Seriously, someone needs to call a news station and get this **** on the air. Us f-body racers alone can't make them change their rule but when big cities (houston) see a dramatic jump in street racing and street racing accidents, guess who the finger is going to point at if we can make the media see the truth (old cars vs. new cars and safety)? I can see it now, a big group of kids get busted and the camera crew ask why? "because we can't race anywhere else." Maybe we can even get a petition going with names and all the reasons why this rule should be thrown out, or atleast modified.

If HRP is doing this, I see the beginning of a slippery slope.
You folk from Texas should band together on this and see if you can squash it, or like a cancer, it will spread.
Write the track officials, their sponsors, your PD, your city council, etc and see if they will listen to reason.

You have to get the cage certified after it is installed. 10 pt is a cage, 8 pt is a roll bar. The 1/4 track closet to Houston is Evandale, right outside of Beaumont.

Re: Attention all T-Top cars
Well I came to a conclusion that the person making this rule is obviously a mustang driver. Figuring he can get rid of MOST F-body competition.
As for the thread in general....before getting all up in arms, I'd recommend waiting for more solid word on this (no offense intended MADMAN, I'd just like to see it in print).
Assuming the NHRA does do something like this, then I agree with McRat and his line of thinking (must have something to do with Mars being close to Earth). If/when that ruling comes out, I think we could get quite a "grass-roots" campaign going on the net. We have lots of folks at a wide variety of sites that could put up a pretty big outpouring of dissent. For my part, I know I could get something set up on the Corral...a petition or whatever.
Still...I'd like to wait and see if it pans out before I go and buy a RPG with the NHRA's name on the business end.
