Question about drag racing and intakes
I have already asked this question in the external engine section with no replies so I figured this is where all the fast people are anyways.
Im trying to figure which setup would be the best to go with.
Would a dominator style 2000 cfm throttle body on top of the new super victor work as well or better than the super victor and a sheetmetal elbow and a 92mm throttle body ? Or would a Beck intake with a 105mm TB ?
This will be in a street and strip car but I consider a street car to have this setup.
2002 SS 3400 race weight
408 with 12.5 comp
244-255 Patrick G gam.
1-7/8 headers
powerglide trans with 4500 stall
3.50 gears with 325 drag radials
400 shot of spray
I know that I will need a SD tune to run the DOM style throttle body and that I will weld the adapter to the intake to run the DOM throttle body.
Would I lose alot of low to mid range with such a large 2000 cfm throttle body ?
Is there any drawback to this setup over the beck or with an elbow ?
Would this setup work as well or better or worse that a beck intake with a 105 mm TB.
Thanks in advance and lets see what you guys suggest.
What difference is it gonna make what the motor does below what the converter stalls to, in this case, let's just say 4500. I promise, you are WAY better off going with an intake that will help carry the power up high and sacrifice low end, because the low end you're losing, is gonna be at an rpm the motor will never have to perform at.
That being said, I'd put a dominator size TB on top of a super victor, or do a sheet metal intake, and wouldnt' even think about anything else.
That's one of the things I have left to do on my car before going to a solid roller setup, is a better then the fast 90/90 intake setup. I suspect there's probably 25 n/a hp left on the table.
