Lets say my car hooks either way, should a slick or DR be faster? I've heard some people say they pick up 1 mph on a radial. I figured the extra weight of a radial would slow me down?

A friend of mine gained 3-4 mph going from a tubed slick @ 10-13 PSI to a Radial at 18-20

not to hijack the thread, but to the original poster..
i was speaking to a mickey thompson rep at a track event in NJ, i asked him a similar question. i told him that i was not happy with the hoosier QTP's. i thought i was losing MPH also. im not sure if any of your cars are stick but he told me to stick with the ET STREETS or any non radial becuase a radial can not recover like a bias ply.. once the tire starts to spin from the shock of a stick car it will continue to blaze!
one question.... whats the difference between a stick launching at 5k, and a trans brake at the same RPM? arent they the same kinda shock to the tires?

He is pretty much right. I loved my radials till they went away. once they start to go they are done. Hitting them with a transbrake at 4,200 when they were good would dead hook. Once they started to go I had to foot brake them

I went back to a new set of 29x13.5 QTPs and picked up a MPH but that was about the ONLY change from the radials. Car ran the same numbers

really ellis? hows the car?
i heard radials mph better...
a auto is a softer shock compared to a stick...becasue the converter absorbs the impact...where a clutch has no give....unless its a slipper

nitrous hit off the transbrake is a pretty good shock.

When I can get a 315/60 on my car I will try the radial again, but not until I can get that size on there.

Can't be any worse then the 5000 that I was running. The one that's in my car now, well you see the sig pic LOL.

I'm on a 12 bolt too, when it came apart for the gear change I couldn't believe it was in as good of shape as it was.

When the car gets the minitub's done, I'm gonna have a 9 inch housing made, 5 inches narrowed per side, and put a 3.5 inch backspace beadlock wheel on the car. Just a matter of wether I want to do a 15x10 or a 15x12 inch rim. I know I'm gonna either put a 315/60 radial, or a 29.5x10S ET drag on it, one or the other.

ALL things being equal, meaning the same 60 foot and subsequent 330 mark, a radial should be faster due to the top end. It will have less roll resistence and generally run faster. BUT often not things are not equal and aside from big turbo guys (which I am still convinced they will be faster on a ET Drag) I see a radial at least on a stick car very inconsistant.

The Hook/Bog, On/Off switch is not fun.

Next rear will be a stout piece (not that mine's been a problem) and will have every possible way to be as LW as I can make it.
