I voted no because I don't want people gonig around saying they lost a race because my rims were 2 lbs lighter than his. Kinda like the people who slap in a drop-in K&N and think they will pull a couple cars on you because of it lol. Obviously if they were extreme cases it would have good affects, but little differences would hardly be noticed i don't think.

Actually, I just screwed up and hit the wrong button. But I had to make an excuse for my stupidity!

its a give/take
basically...don't worry about it
EXACTLY! That's why I run 255s on some stock twisties instead of the 17" 315s MT some run.

I just dyno'd my car on 28" M/T, it made 580hp and 650tq, did the 28's and the Moser rear rob some power??

Yes, it added more rotational weight.

I know the answer is yes but would you say it even out if you had the stock 16inch wheels with 245s before.. and would have horrible traction. But then you upgrade to 17x9 firehawk wheels and throw 275s on with a much better tire and now your hooking much better. Even though the weight is more, would you say it would be considered a gain or a even out? Due to the fact of having traction now vs having horrible traction before?

The discussion wasn't if heavier wheels with bigger tires were worth it, but simply will they affect dyno numbers, and the answer is yes, despite the 10 people who voted no.

Look at what the wheels do to a trailblazer SS with a 4l60e trans. Compare that to a gto with the 6.0l motor but lighter wheels and a more efficient drivetrain.

Is the gain in traction worth the loss of power to the ground? ... If it wasn't then you would see Dragsters with skinnies on the rear just because it will put down better numbers. I realize that is an exaggeration but that's the best way I could think to put it...

You want the lightest wheel/tire combo that gets you as much traction as you need. Obviously a 600hp car needs more traction than a 400hp car. Also, bigger tires are a bandaid sometimes for suspsension that isn't setup correctly.

Are the aftermarket rims (like mine) generally lighter than the origial chrome hawk rims I had on? Just always wondered this is all.

That is a good way to sum it up...

I think its the other way around. All the aftermarket rims I have picked up seemed heavier than the stock ones that they were replacing.

It simply depends on the rim manufacturer. If you drop the coin and get a good set of billet wheels, most are lighter.

funny I made my first run ever in my 20s just longtubes and duals my buddy robert just catback with some 17s on 275ls made abest past od 14.4 in his stick 'LT1 and I did 13.9 in my Ls1 even with my traction contol bogging me down the whole pass.... I thin its better to have a little more weight than have no traction at all, what's the pont of having all those hoses if u can't put em down......20s are huge for sure though....lol

Thats why I dont like replica wheels.
I wander what a C-6 ZO6 would make with a nice set of 17 by 9s.
