WTF. That place was awesome. You know you could always change the compression and throw a blower or turbo on there...

Just a random post on here, but I actually measured the cutout that I have on my crappy exhaust (as I had always assumed it was 3") and it turns out its only a 2.5" cutout. New 4" exhaust is in the future, although I can't decide between that or 3" TD's. Anyone have any data on which will make more power?

The duals will make more power but be obnoxiously loud on a big motor like yours.

That cam is pretty close to where it needs to be. The 14-16 degree split seems to be about what most are going with. Although, most of the 600+rwhp LS7 setups are going with less split... 8 degrees or so and more overlap, since overlap done right can still work to your advantage even with the 2.2" intake valve.

You are down a little on power, but it may just be the setup vs a stock LS7. I know unmilled LS7 heads on the stock, very light shortblock, will net you starting in the 530rwhp and 480rwtq range with a similar cam and a ported manifold. So, you are close. Going with a bigger cam (248/256 or 251/259), milling for more compression, and running a FAST LSXR could get you into the 570-580 range. I would suggest the LSXR and additional milling for more compression. That could get you up over 550/500.

I would bet that the only reason I'm down on power is due to my very restrictive exhaust. I gained 38rwhp and 45ftlbs of torque just by uncapping a 2.5" cutout on a conservative tune haha. Once I upgrade the exhaust and bring my AFR to 13.2, I will see 550/500.

I'm at 550/490 with stock LS7 heads and intake with Vengeance LS7X cam. 99TA M6 through a 9". My compression in the 10.7 range. I think there is more in mine. I am running TSP 3" duals dumped and it is loud as hell. I hate it. Must be old age!

I personally have a 3.5" exhaust on my heads/cam car and I love it. At your power levels I don't why you wouldn't benefit from a 4" system. I know a lot of people on here love TD's, I also like them, but ground clearance and loudness is something to consider. The tone that a large diametere single system gives is so sick, I get compliments all the time. A Mufflex 4" dual tip system with a Magnaflow muffler would sound and look awesome.

Here's a link to my system:

Thanks for the tip. I have been seeing a lot about the Mufflex system lately. Honestly, what I would really like to have is the 4" system, with the magnaflow muffler like the system you have, but when it hits right over the PHB, to split it into two 4" pipes and run two of those mag race mufflers to Corsa style tips (which I already have). I don't know if a second muffler would fit down there, i would have to ask, but thats the main idea i have. Then the topper would be to have a DMH 4" elec cutout on the I-pipe just for *****.

I took the car out last night for the first time in a few weeks since it isn't my daily driver anymore (moving up in this world), and its ridiculous lol.

That would be a sweet setup. Maybe give Mufflex a call or a local exhaust shop and see what they say. The 4" system is a very tight fit and will probably hit against the UPHB a little, I know mine does, but it's nothing I can't live with.

I've been considering buying the UMI UPHB but just can't justify it. You think it's worth it?

Only if you're going to run TD's. I think I still may do that. Back about 2 years ago I ordered two of the intermediate stainless pipes from SLP, they have them on sale for 22 dollars each (and is the price i paid for them 2 years ago). They are already pre-formed and would fit perfectly if making a TD system. All i need now is the x-pipe, mufflers, and piping out the back. So far I have only invested about 50 bucks haha.

here is a link to what I'm talking about: http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=10168S

Oh I see. So you don't think it would be beneficial for my 3.5" system? I thought it might give me some extra clearance and help with the banging.

If you need the space it will be well worth it.
