How well do you guys think this cam will work in a 5.3 lm7.... going for a stock sounding car..... loss of drivability? assume on stock heads?

I wonder if this cam would respond well to a turbo?

If you're going for a stock sound, this cam has too much overlap for that. Remember, a 5.3 will need 4 degrees less overlap to behave like a 5.7. This cam will be too big for what you want.

So this cam has -6 degrees overlap..... so your saying something around -10 degrees will be better for sleeperish 5.3?? how about the same cam on like a 118 lsa?? or should i bring the lift down to bring my peak power lower with stock heads???

Widening the LSA will soften the mid-range toque. I'd recommend going 4 degrees smaller on intake and exhaust and keep the LSA the same for a 5.3L.

Would one expect to see simialr results when installed in a CTS-
V? I would like to keep my stock manifolds due to budget and the fact the car is a DD and driven in the winter in Chicago.

So your saying that it will be around -10 degrees on overlap..... with same LSA and with less duration (-4 duration on both Intake,Exhaust)? I THINK I GOT IT!!! oh yeah any videos on how the car sounds? Thanks for the input

Very similar results as the motors are nearly identical.

That's the right line of thinking.

VERY impressive results!!! Would a cam like this be recommended for heavy vehicles like trucks with stock converters? I'm trying to get more info before I pull the trigger for a cam swap.

The power would be there if the setup was the same. Depending on if your looking for more torque then you might be looking for something a little different for the added weight.

Just saw this and I've VERY impressed with the results! Nice car as well

I'm curious to see numbers on another application with longtubes. Your results with the cheatr cam were great, especially the power gained with the addition of longtubes.

For such mild cam using beehives this power is great, under the curve picked up very nice too!

While you could run this cam with headers, keep in mind that the valve events have been optimized around exhaust manifolds. With headers, you can run more duration and more overlap to aid in scavenging and filling the cylinders.

IIRC, Patrick swapped to a larger cam shortly after adding longtubes to the CheaTR combo, citing that reason. You are leaving some power on the table otherwise.

Correct. My statement was more of a what if, to see the results. For someone who decided to upgrade to longtubes down the line they would still gain decent power. For a cam with -6 degrees of overlap it's certainly very mild and the power gains are great, I really like the power increase across the board with this cam.

Patrick seems to have had good luck with the 226/230 cam using EPS lobes as well. That would probably be a nice step up in power, as you said with the addition of headers there will be more scavenging hence the duration increase.

Fortunately, the later '00-02 cast iron manifolds we used don't require the porting like the old tubular stainless manifold used on the '98-99 F-bodies.
