403 rwhp LS1 with stock exhaust manifolds and mild cam

Very well done!!! I love seeing small cams putting down those kind of numbers.
I love 218 cams...Those new lobes look awesome. Plus its cool to see stock LS6 heads
do so well. And they only flow like 260cfm or about that. Makes me wonder why we need
300 cfm on a stock cube motor. I was told by a race head porter that on a 346 cid motor would need to rev close to 7200 rpm or more to utilize 300+cfm. I took a set of ported 035 6.0 liter heads and they flowed just over 300 cfm and he just looked at me and said I better be revving the motor to almost 7,500 rpm. He said a stock motor wouldn't have enough piston speed to draw all 300 cfm through the head. I was shocked to say the least. Once we told him they were blower heads then he said then everything was fine. And this guy builds quick 8 cars and actually fills in the intake runners on the famous Pontiac Big Chief heads to lower the cfm and to crank up the air speed. So i think he knows what he's doing. I guess that's why we see all the time people running 10's on cam only, unported heads. I would love to find someone fill in a set of stock 241 heads to 195cc's and not do anything else to the head, then just add something like Patrick's 218/230 cam plus long tubes, CB, 4.10's if its a M6 car or a 3600 stall if an A4 and fine tuning.
I'd wouldn't be shocked that the car could run high 10's or atleast 11.0's. It be a cool experiment Congrads on another powerfull small cam setup!!!

One of the big the keys to making a car quiet and still make power is using high-flow cats. Cats make all the difference in the world on how loud a car can be.
Stock 243's + Custom Cam + Bolt ons + Good tuning + LT's + Good flowing catted Y + SLP Dual/Dual catback = 400+rwhp and dead quiet. I know, because I've done it.

Cats can be used as kind of a muffler, same results through with restriction on flow. sounds like you have done it.
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I love the idea of manifolds making power... maybe PatG or someone can give me some hints or advice. on a cam.
I already have a high 11 sec N/A Ls1 2k Z28, so I don''t need to try and hang with the light weight 12 sec cars. (I rarely drive it)
I'm putting together a LQ9... in a 2002 RCSB Chevy truck with 3.73 posi and 4l60e that has a 5.3 stock..
I want it to sound stock or kind of close to stock.. a slight rumble is fine.. no lope. it will sometimes be used as DD.. see very very little track
I guess I want something to just drive and use for hauling--- but at the same time if a 5.7 Tundra pulls up next to me .. well having something to be able to play play with on those rare occasions .. with a few mods.. they can make 300 rwhp, 340-360 with with headers and mods.
So far I'm thinking of 4 x quiet muffler setup will take a few Y pipes and weilder.. something that almost is dead quiet, but flows like 2 performance mufflers... Headers seem to make more noise than manifolds... and are a dead giveaway.. but someone else may have other experiance.. chime in please if you wish
on cams
The came I want would be something like a Stealth.. 220-220
most the younger crowd they want 230+ cams with big lope to sounds cool... But this is not a 3700 lb car, even RCSB truck are 4500 lbs..
So I figure a little less cam and more low end..
I'm thinking of the Comp 212 @050 seems everyone likes it for stock sounding..
I would like some lobe separation to make it sound more stock..
a 216-220 570-580 114 or 115 LS seems like it would be good.. any ideas??
The wide lobe separation would also be good to kill off some cylinder pressure if I get 243's, as the static CR would be over 10.7:1, and tuning would be more difficult for pump gas.
With stock 317's, 918's springs, 7.4 pr's CAI I would like to have 330-340 RWHP with manifolds (maybe headers)... might have to get some ported 243's ud pully, E-fans, and higher RPM intake (vs Truck intake) to get 360-380 rwhp for later
Any ideas on what you might think is a good sleeper cam feel free to chime in??
thanks

I pulled the trigger on my stock exhaust manifold project a little while ago. Geoff at EPS is spec'ing the cam out for my 02 WS6 (converter and bolt on's) with stock exhaust manifolds. I'm looking to make the most useable power without all the noise from LT's and lopey cam. I think this car will surprise a few.

This thread was very informative thank you! I was already looking to buy a similar cam for my G8 GXP that I could idle around 650rpm's and had a nice fat and wide powerband. I wanted something like the Thunder Racing CheaTr v3 which I think is 219/230 on a 117LSA. I ended up with a Comp XFI cam 218/230 on a 116LSA with +2 advance ground into the cam. I already have all the bolt-ons and while it won't produce eye popping peak numbers I am sure the car is going to fly

It's a two year old thread. A lot has happened since then. The OP has upgraded to an even meaner engine. No videos though.
