The smaller motors aren't nearly as limited as the bigger ones, intake wise. So, don't let the comparison of peak HP numbers fool you. 540 with L92s and a L76 intake is pretty damn good. Besides, the difference in torque is huge. 60 ft pounds or better. At 3500, the difference is 100 ft pounds.

The cam in both are very similar, which would make it more radical in the smaller motor, than the larger. It is what would be considered middle of the road size wise.
so this has the l76 intake, not the ls3?

So with a FAST 102 and a lil larger cam and 1 7/8 headers, 500 rwhp thru an auto is possible?

you can do it on a fast 92/92 set up check sig. Heads are different but for an auto it isn't bad.

The FAST won't fit.

1 7/8s would make a little more up top, but not much. Single digits.

500 through an auto would be possible, yes. No real need for a bigger cam. These heads don't like much bigger.

This motor would make 500rwhp in an auto with a lockup converter.

With a good intake and tb,1 7/8 headers with no cats and bigger exhaust-this car would easily make 560-570 rwhp

Damnit! I just sent my L92's off to be CNC ported! Any figures on the "secret cam specs" that make all this power, Ed/Shawn, of Virginia Speed? Just curious to know what the "ideal" cam is to make 540+ rwhp, with 408 CID, L92 heads, and 11:1 compression and a 4-bbl intake and a 6-speed gear box. I would like to do this right the first time and be content with it!

We don't give out cam specs, however, we'd be happy to sell you a cam.

So even if you start at 2000, if the converter flashes to 3000, that's where the run will start on the graph.

Later model converters that you can lock, you can start them low, just like a clutch.
i was actually saying the '68-74 comment to be facetious, as shawn said something along the lines of an auto GTO not making 500 whp, at least not a gen II. gen II's = 68-74. bad joke, i know.

i actually didn't think about the non-lockup converters of yesteryear though.

234/240, 236/242 or 232/238 both around .610" lift and 112 or 113ls thats the most polpular cams I have tested for someone out there. Comp sends them with certain requests, these wheresent eith the notes of L92 heads 400 or less cubes ? they all made over 625FWHP wich should be about 540rwhp on a six speed car ? we tried a off the shelf xer287 with 238/242 112ls and that made within 5hp of these specific cams ? My best luck has been in my 05 408ci GTO with a 232/242 113ls Its an auto buts runs 10.90's all day on pump gas.
