According to Nick at American Racing Headers, the mid-length headers leave lots of room for improvement. They are making some BIG gains with the 5.0L motor with their long tubes and efficient x-pipe. Think about the tuning potential of variable cam timing on intake and exhaust, especially with forced induction or nitrous. Guys with laptops are going to have a field day!

Go back and look at those magazine tests from 1997. They had the '98 LS1 F-bodies running 13.5-13.8 at 102-105mph. It took months before somebody running at Englishtown (with mineshaft air) was able to click off a 12.99. I remember well because I had the first automatic to click off a 12. But I needed an MTI lid, ported MAF and Yank 3000 converter to do it. Yes, I give the 5.0 Mustang some props. Stock for stock, it's way faster than any stock LS1 F-body.

+1, I don't see how >400 rwhp in a lighter car only traps 110. Even so, at probably high 300's for rwhp, it's impressive. I'm actually a little bit "hurt." I'd probably have a difficult time making 400 rwhp in smog legal form, like I plan on doing when I take the longtubes off. Sucks I can't build a smog legal LS1 that will keep up with a little STOCK 5.0!

No sense in getting upset or into a pissing match. It'd be like someone whining that their tube tv from the early 90's doesn't have as good of a picture as their neighbors new slim hdtv. As time goes on, technology gets better. Who knows what's going to happen down the road? I'm sure power levels will only continue increasing. Props to Ford for the new development. Lets just hope the battle continues and the green people don't **** us all over.

When they get in the consumers hands the mustang will be .5 slower guranteed. Fords always run like they have 50hp less than they're rated. Just so ya know our 5.0 ALMS race engine with 13 to 1 comp. and all the tricks only makes 515 on a engine dyno. Mod motors are poop.

Well its about time Ford put some HP in the Stang.Ill have to agree though that 110 mph in a 6speed is nothing fenominal at that weight.01 and 02 fbodys have run that# with a lot less HP,near same weight.We have gone 10.80s at 109-110 in an a4 with only a lid and basic weight reduction in a 02 Camaro.No biggie if you ask me for the HP its supposed to have.

Guys, whether or not it impresses you is irrelevant. What's important is that it's a signal that the pony car wars are still raging. That's a good sign because it means we have a better chance of having our fast cars still in the market 10 years from now, regardless of which brand you like.
That said, my cammed LS3 in my 4th gen fears no stock mustang..

i just don't see that mustang making more power than they claim with a 5.0..not enough cubes and i dont care how many valves they have that engie is about maxed out..
