Default 2011 5.0 Mustang Dyno

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...ang-gt-50.html

If the car isn’t a ringer the new 5.0 could be pretty fast. Looks like it took 7 dyno pulls before it got to that number but with estimates in 3600Ibs range it could be a mover.

For some reason they don;t want to use the 1:1 gear (5th) for the dynos.

I call bs on the power numbers the new stangs are only rated at 415ish. with those numbers it would make more like 450ish to the flywheel. I don't doubt its a stout motor but for it to put down more then a more powerful 2010 camaro's motor i think not.

A non 1:1 ratio pull will skew the numbers.

Motor trend got a 12.8 @110.8, so I believe the power numbers are probably right. Looks like the ponycar war is back on. My guess is that now mustang will again outsell the camaro. I'm sure a whole lot of folks have been waiting for the new stang to come out.

Those numbers can't be accurate. The mustang barely loses any power from the flywheel to the real wheels. Also Motor trend only ran the car a tenth faster than the camaro with supposedly more HP and 250 less in weight.

Motortrend's 377/351 looks reasonable. The 395 in the video I'm not so sure about. That would have to be some serious underrating right there.

^Agreed, has to be seriously underrated at the flywheel, or those numbers are just way too high. However, I'm excited to see Ford step it up finally. Its awesome to see the days of the muscle cars wars being revived with current technology

No offense to all you loyal GM owners, but in case you forgot, the 98-02 LS1 F-bodies were rated at 305hp from the factory. The funny thing is, they regularly would dyno 300-310rwhp on a chassis dyno. Was the driveline really efficient? No. Was the factory hp rating conservative to keep from competing with the Corvette? Yes.

Give props to Ford for finally making a naturally aspirated engine that makes some killer power. The factory hp rating is obviously conservative (just like the old LS1 F-bodies were). Let the horsepower wars continue!

It will be interesting to see if they will get their engines horsepower and torque SAE certified like GM does, that would keep them somewhat honest.

I know what you're saying, but based off the 110/111 mph traps, I don't think that this is a 400 rwhp car. Either way, 370's out of a new GT is no freaking joke and I think Ford did a great job with it! Sucks for those who just bought a 2010 GT, lol.

I'm curious to see how the new 5.0 responds to mods.

I think its pretty tapped, it has mid length headers, and a electric power steering pump stock. So long tube headers and a under drive pulley won't get as much.

I imagine this engine can't be cheap to produce either, but it looks like they designed in the ability to drop a DI system in the next rev. So that should be an easy 20HP in a few years when they need to bump it.

I still prefer the cheap, easy mod gains of the 5.7-6.0-6.2 of the LS series but its cool to see Ford stop pulling punches and bring a gun to a gun fight for once.
