It made 589 rwhp @ 13.9 air fuel ratio, dropping fuel pressure, replaced pump
It made 590 rwhp @ 11.9 air fuel ratio, then we leaned it out some
It made 592 rwhp @ 12.6 air fuel ratio (#6)....I've never seen a car change so little in power with large changes in afr, so we added 2 degrees of timing for a total of 30 degrees
It made 593 rwhp (#7)...at this point I'm convinced we are finished tuning, so we dropped the 4" pipe off the throttle body and ran the tb open with nothing on it,
It made 584 rwhp...now that's an efficient induction to pull it off and loose power...we hooked the 4" pipe back up and dropped the exhaust at the collectors,
It made 599 rwhp (#9)...so 6 rwhp from full exhaust to open collectors...I can live with that. In all my years of dyno tuning, I've never seen an engine respond so little to changes. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it is what it is. Thanks to all involved on this project, including Sky Tower Racing Engines for a great deal on dyno time, but mostly to James Short of ShorTuning for all his time in testing and tuning, the drivability is perfect, I can't believe how it drives around for the power it makes.

Brian I'm glad you like it! That was my only goal! It would have been nice to pull that 1rwhp out of it somewhere to get that 6xx number but either way it's a dang nice build with LOT's of power. Thanks for the test drive also, I can only say that it is amazing how smooth and powerful the car is. I just hope all this power is actually transferred to the tires while the convertor is unlocked...haha
Again thanks for the opportunity to play with the tune on your car!

Brian,
Nice job.....Im building a similar combo in a few months. Just gets me that much more excited.
I only have one thing to say....how did you leave the dyno without finding the one pony roaming around under the table....LOL
Reminded me of some testing with the 383 awhile back....6 pulls at like 598 and 599 (flywheel numbers)....I couldnt buy a 600 number. Then we changed one more item (and I cant remember what) and it jumped to 610 when we called it a day. I laugh to this day remembering how frustrated we all were we couldn't get the "6" in front of the number at the time.
Anyway....enjoy the new motor. Should be a monster and Im looking forward to seeing what it runs in your C5

We talked about airing up the tires, icing down the intake, etc. but I really didn't care about rwhp numbers, I had my goal of over 700 at the crank, and the chassis numbers were what they were. It was over 90 degrees also and getting hotter, so we were done. If you notice the humidity showed 8%, if those numbers were more realistic the SAE corrected numbers would have been over 600 rwhp.
Good luck with your build, I'm guessing your goal is 706+?

Nice numbers! I need to head south and go for a ride. Either that, or crate the engine up and send it north. I know a red '67 Camaro that needs that bad
!
Hope you are well. I think I need a big inch LS for the old dog....

LMAO.....I just caught back up with this thread and saw your response!
Lets just say the cam destined for my build fattened up a few degrees in my head after I saw your posted results!!![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
=)
I have been torn with how aggressive to get....the 83' really drove well. I hate to over-cam the new engine looking for a big number on the dyno and sacrifice a reasonably good driving car but then again I also know its almost hard to over cam these giant smallblocks.....hence the frustration in the decision making process!
Im pretty sure you can relate!
Cheers,
Tony

I drove it 3 hours round trip to the Holley LS Fest, installed the racing tires but we never hooked up, so it only ran 10.40, but it did run as fast as 134.7 mph through the auto in almost 2000 da. If it was a stick car I think it would run over 140 mph in good air.

Whats up brian, hows it going in kentucky? Killer numbers, glad it worked out for ya. Can't wait to see it run! Btw chris has picked up 79 rwhp with those patched up trick flow as cast ls2 heads and fast 92 on his ls1. From 365 cam only to 444!

I know I'm biased, but this combo is unbelievable. Due to the killer tune it idles and drives better than ever, starts easy and never dies, it's not that loud, and with my 7 year old street tires it's just crazy to drive (they have lots of tread so I can't bring myself to replace them).

It was good to see you again at the LSFest Brian. So this is the engine that is in your white C5? My hydraulic cam N/A 427 made 645 hp and 577 tq at the flywheel and ran 9.5s in my C5. I was glad to help with advice at Bowling Green. Your car looked good going down the track but I can get you into the 9s (way into the 9s) without doing anything to the engine, and the car will remain very streetable. PM me if you are interested. Danny.
