317 heads 460rwhp

I have a friend that had some claimed stage 3 ported 317 casting LS6 heads installed on his '99 Trans Am Ws6 LS1 346cid MN6. He has a stock LS6 intake,244/242 612/610 112 lsa cam, 1 7/8ths LTs, built 12 bolt rear, 4.10s and spraying a 150 wet shot. He claims on motor he made 460rwhp and his pistons aren't flycutted either. Does this sound right?

I didn't know Stge 3 heads fit on a 346cid and 460rwhp with a stock ls6 manifold through a 12bolt and 4.10s is mighty high. What are you guys opinions.

Sounds like BS, stock 317's lower compression under 10:1. Unless he got them milled a bunch, which would require fly cutting I doubt it. 317 heads are not LS6 heads (243 64.5cc chamber). If he had a fast intake with 10.5-11:1 compression it would be more believable, especially with 4.10's and a 12 bolt. Than again it's just a dyno and they all read differently.

I had a buddy blue00ws6 who had a 346 with 6.0 heads that were milled and it made 450ish. So I don't really think it's too far fetched.

Well the stage 3 part is just the level that that manufacture put into porting and polishing those heads and doesn't affect the compatibility of using them on a LS1. 317's will work on a LS1, they're just a 6.0 liter head. But 317's are not LS6 heads. 460 does seem pretty high with those heads, I dynoed out at 430 with a MS3, 90/90 fast, PRC stg 1 heads, 1 3/4 longtubes and a 3.89 9 inch. Ask to see his dyno sheet cause that sounds like a happy dyno. What does he run at the track?

I put down 460rwhp/418rwtq. 233/239 598 603 113lsa. on 10.7:1 SCR with ported LS6 heads and diamond pistons, Probe LW rods, etc...... on my C5Z06. No saying its not possible to do 460rwhp in N/A with stock internal LS1 but you need to push the compression up to around 10.8+ Full Bolt-ons and DAMN good heads.
