What? Negative? Have you ever drove something with a heartbeat in it? This blood, guts and glory! I think it sucks. A piece! We have pretty much an ancient engine about the only OHV performance motor left on the market, still makes as much or more power & torque by going N/A and oh my gas mileage?
I can't wait for GM to knock Ford on its *** again. Hell the LS engines were being engineered back in 91". The 5.0L is a joke. Stock crank hp is like 420? Nissan is using a 3.7L V6 that pops out 380? Like I said a joke. Also to consider the block and the car is a boat anchor.
As bad as I hate to see LS engines go, I can't wait for GM to show up their DOHC designs for some new performance V8's. I wouldn't be surprised for 500hp out of the box, 35~ish mpg highway and an n/a capable of 630~ish rwhp if you've got deep enough pockets.
I hate Fords. Its in my blood. Mustangs are the american versions of civics. Everywhere you go you see one. Almost every one of them are pieces of junk. The people who own them are proud and cocky. When they get beat they make excuses.
Go Chevrolet or go home. I'd rather push my GTO than drive a mustang. Even the new one.
Who's with me? Lol.

Wow, first time I went on that forum...
They seem to like dyno queens (no one cares that they lost low/mid range going from stock to boss intake- to get the high number).
They seem to be stuck on the hp/L argument (wont even go into that)
And, can someone who knows more about Fords tell me how this is a "mild" setup when they are spinning to 7500rpm... do they plan on spinning these things to 9K with a stock shortblock?

We spin our canned tunes on bone stockers to 7200, and the new Boss 302 is said to have a stock rev limit in the 7500 RPM range.
VVT is an awesome thing when done right.
With the right cams, you will surely see some 8500+ rpm combos out there.

Well, FWIW, 7500 RPM is kinda mild on these things.

wasn't there talk of how the 5.0 coyote would do with boost? something about thin cylinder liners ... isn't that an LS issue too?
the new stangs aren't bad ... but I'll stay old school

I mean as much as I'm not a fan of Mustangs I will give credit where credit is due. Approaching 2.0hp per cubic inch N/A is definitely nothing to sneeze at, especially on a very new motor on it's first "go around" (as there aren't many new modded 5.0s yet).
However, as many have said, there's a lot of low/mid-range power sacrificed and it's spun pretty high to make this kind of power as well. Secondly, the power "gained" isn't actually all that much. Horsepower TV dynoed this motor and it was either 460hp or 463hp at the flywheel stock (and as others have posted around 15% drivetrain loss would be ~394 rwhp stock vs. 507 rwhp modded). This equals +113rwhp. If you look at countless LS1/3/6/7s they can pick up over 200rwhp when just as modded (and in fact, similar gains without as many mods).
I know this is just scratching the surface, and as mentioned, still a nice power output at 507rwhp but like I said when compared to what it came with from the factory (and comparing it to 14 year old technology), I'm still not THAT impressed.

Those guys on SVT forum need to come to the real world. They are so estatic over this one car that after 15 years of being dominated by chevy's LS motors are finally breaking 500 rwhp N/A. I was really happy for Ford until I went on that site and was reminded by how cocky and assuming mustang owners are. 2/3rds of the posts in this thread have been happy and glad that ford is finally getting it done, while on that other site 2/3rds of them are bashing the dog **** out of LS motors saying how much better their 5.0 is now. Like I said I was happy for ford until I read that **** over there, mustang owners can choke on one for all I care now.

Well I'm impressed with it for sure. But at the same time whats more efficient about this motor then ours? Yes it's less cubes but its bigger and heavier. It also gets less mpg then our cars. I would rather have a smaller lighter motor with more cubes making great power more torque and getting more mpg. I dont know if its just me but i like simple to work on and tune also. Being able to rev to the moon is awesome at the track but on a day to day basis give me more torque down low. But all that aside that new 5.0 motor is a great piece!

^ Sadly enough, I'd take the Stang over the Camaro. The interior quality is much better. I don't think I'd actually DO it though.
I don't care about the weight or the layout of the interior on the Camaro, I'm just talking about product choice and quality.. GM in the last couple of years has just been too much cheap cracker-jack plastic. Could get the same stuff in a Revell Model.

I've been a ford fan all my life (1st car was a 67 stang). Sat in a new mustang and it felt cramped. I don't care how well built, it felt tiny. Bought a 2011 ss/rs for less then a 5.0. It handles great and with less then $2,000 I'm at 425rwhp and 415rwtq. No Chinese crap headers either. I'm sure for half the price of the 5.0 HCI you can do 500rwhp for the LS3. Of course you have to spend the other half on the rear end!

I dont think that its a fair comparison. To compare an ls1 or 6 to a new 5.0 is funny. The ls1/6 has already beat up the 5.0 prodecessors. So ford has had a chance to see what works for us and imulate what he have proven to work. The diplacement of the engines has never really been a concern. Even back in the late 80's and early 90's IROCS were 5.7 and mustangs were 5.0. I agree with members who posted earlier that the ls3 would be the best comparison.

^ Good point.. Ford's new baby is certainly driving this wedge deeper, isn't it?
It's competition. And I'd like to see a 5.0L GM engine crank out 420something flywheel. Wait.. GM doesn't have a 5.0L anymore... Hmmm.. Our engines are badass, yes, but ford is making some very respectable numbers now. The 2V 4.6's were dogs, the 4v Mach1 and Cobra engines are great. I'd grab a 4.6KB Cobra any day. Almost sold my truck for one when I was out west last summer. But I didn't need two toys.
