It still runs like it did before but it seems to shake a lot around 2500rpm. Maybe its just in my head I don't know. I guess I will have to do a compression test and leak down test.

The car still hunts idle and is running really rich. This happened before and I had an exhaust leak at the collector. I fixed the leak and replaced the O2's and the car ran great and my mileage picked back up. I checked for leaks today and couldn't find any. Replaced the O2's and it still is running bad. I talked to Mike Norris today and I am going to try to take it back up there next month.

What I don't understand is why after the first time I fixed the leak and replaced the O2's it ran so good and this time its not.

I hate cars.

Dirty MAF connection, Vac. leak, or burned plug wire ??????
I've even had plug wires back off if not properly clicked yet still look right.
Car will idle fine and part throttle ok but lag on medium throttle load.

I scanned it at work the other day and didn't show any miss history. MAF was about 8.5grams at idle. It has new plugs in it and Grantatelli wires. I bought the injectors used, it would probably be a good idea to have them checked/flowed. The car was never super smooth before but it seems to be worse now.

When I re did the valvetrain I put new plugs in it. When I replaced the 02 sensors they were sooty and black. Fuel trims are 2-3 or so.

I did a dry compression test tonight. I let the car run for a few minutes to get some heat in it and splash some oil on the rings.
1: 220 2: 215
3: 220 4: 215
5: 220 6: 215
7: 220 8: 215

I smoked the exhaust and intake with a smoke machine and found no leaks.
I could smell raw fuel whenever I pulled the plugs out. The porcelain was white but smelled of gas really strong. The car doesn't smoke at all but does use IMO quite a bit of oil.

I am happy to say I don't have any oil on the plugs like I did before I fixed the valve train setup. I'm happy I was able to fix something.

I know I probably need to do a leakdown test. I don't know if its possible to have that high of compression and a significant leak down problem.

Cleaned the MAF, checked the IAC, TPS, 02's, fuel pressure is 60psi, no vacuum leaks. I can't find anything out of wack. I am starting to think it is the tune. As soon as you start the car is reaks of fuel.

Just curious man, when you took the car for the tune did you drive it there
or trailer it ??? I only ask cuz if it's already warmed up then the tuner has to
guess sorta on the cold startup fuel trims. You have high compression and
excellant cylinder pressure which should idle almost smooth at 850-900 rpms
and should not stink bad on 28.8 injectors. I think you're right it just needs
some more tune time to "clean it up" a bit.

I trailered it. I'm guessing the leaking exhaust system threw things off.

Perhaps a goofy injector or 2; (also as you had mentioned)

I replaced the spark plug wires. Runs MUCH better. The tune still needs to be cleaned up some but it hasn't run this good in a while.

I had a set of Granatelli wires on it. Three ends broke off when I took them off when I did the compression test. I put a set of MSD's on that I had before. I didn't expect it make a difference but it did.

I know I haven't bumped this in a while but I thought it was worth an update.

After I did the compression test and put the new plug wires on the clutch went out and the car has sat for a long time. Working on the new house, starting a new job and doing paint correction on the side the Hawk took a back burner. A month or so ago the wife gave me the nod on getting a new clutch for it.

I had some issues with the monster 3.5 I had before but because I waited so long to look into it it bit me in the ***. By the time the clutch went out it had been three years since I bought it but didn't have a lot of miles on it. After talking to Steve@SNL he said he would help me out on another Monster Clutch if I decided to go that route. It was such a grey area about what happened I really appreciated it. After reading all the positive posts about SNL and Monster I decided to give them another try and I'm glad I did.

This time I went with a stage 2, 28lb flywheel. I had bought the 3.5 from a "at the time sponsor" w/ screen name Gen1414 or something like that. I wasn't happy with the 18lb flywheel I had before and after talking to John and Steve@SNL they said I should go w/ the 28lb.

I put the clutch in at work w/ every detail looked at and checked. So far I LOVE this clutch. Super smooth engagement, no chatter, stock pedal feel.

The biggest thing I noticed is the vibration that started 2500rpm and never went away is gone! The car is smooth from idle all the way up. I'm still breaking it in and have only rolled into the throttle in 2nd gear. For whatever reason the 3.5 was out of balance.

Please don't take this as a bash towards Steve or SNL, its quite the opposite.

So from where I was before I have learned this.
1. My cylinder heads where setup wrong.
2. Clutch was slipping and out of balance.
3. I'm getting close to being out of injector.

I can say I am actually happy with the car now. I never was before. I appreciate all the input and help everyone has contributed.

It won't be till the spring but I will update with new dyno numbers when I get them.

J

The setup is so key on these things. Who did the work on the car?

A local machine shop set the heads up initially(wrong, even after I told them what I had and what I needed.)

I put the heads/cam/intake/exhaust/clutch/trans in.

Mike Norris tuned it.

This has been a long process but I'm glad you're happy with your car now. I know how all the little things can add up quick and mke you not enjoy your car. You should have let chuck Norris do all the work!

Nice numbers man... Love the torque! I made 427/402 A4 3800 Stall. That eps cam is really nice, almost wish i would of went with something a bit more aggressive than the 224r. But cant complain too much, since M6 always have a higher HP/tq pull. The tq curve on my pull starts early and is somewhat flat through out the mid range. Got to love them 5.3 heads!

I bet your car hauls *** making that kind of power through an auto. Have you had it to the track yet?

Yessir, power feels Awesome! But no track runs yet, was on call this weekend so cant leave the area. I'll be heading to SAR Track as soon as there's a test and tune night. Im more interested in trap speed Vs ET, my nittos suck in the 1/4, so wont set my expectations too high.

Glad to hear things are looking on the up bro! It's never fun to dump a lot of time and $$$$ into these cars and have them only to run bad. I just recently put in a monster stage 2 clutch package, TSP 3" Stainless ORY and a DMH 3" electric cut out. I also had the tune adjusted which helped wonders and opened up some power left on the table. Going to have it back on the dyno sometime this next Spring/Summer. Last time I dyno'd it, it put down 417rwh/401rwt. Not too shabby for a mild cam and stock 241 heads.
