yes 2nd gear pulls with give you less hp, I've seen anywhere from 5-20hp between the two depending.

Also, yes the high torque numbers are from not being a lockup converter.

no doubt they were. I've since changed a bunch of parts and the headers were one of them. I have 1 7/8 headers now.
