Default Found My Long Lost Dyno Sheet!

I was rumaging through some paperwork this morning and came across my original dyno sheet from a before and after MTI T-1 cam install. After looking at the numbers for the first time in 11 years, I thought they were not too bad.

With an aftermarket airbox, Random Tech Catback system/stock cats, and a cutout, the SS managed 330.9 RWHP and 335.4 TQ.

After the installation of the T-1 cam, the numbers were 338.5 RWHP and 338.4 TQ: no tuning has ever been done to the car.

I am pretty excited because I now have a good baseline before adding heads etc.

Cheers,

Q

Yea, I remember we were all a little stumped after the cam install and Dyno run. The car has been running this fucked up cam for 11 years now with no issues

I will probably be changing the cam out in the near future anyway..

What's the reason for never having it tuned? Seems like a waste of money. You've left an awful lot of driveability, gas mileage and power on the table for over a decade...

The main reason is I just never got around to it per say. Then I got caught up in job related stuff etc. Now that I have more time, I am getting the bug to add more hp and get it tuned. The car has been a garage queen for the last 3 years having only put 1600 miles on it and that includes a too and from trip from Oklahoma to Corpus Christi and back. The gas mileage is actually pretty darned good averaging 29 MPG doing 70.

Now looking at some heads, 2.5 5.3L, from Texas Speed and maybe even a cam swap. I also ordered a LS6 Intake along with a Shaner L3 ported TB.. Hopefully, I can get some more hp after these mods along with a tune.

I am gonna refrain from the dick shooting off maneuver.. I feel like for not getting a good tune but it will happen soon enough

Good luck with the new mods Q, hopefully you get a satisfying gain in performance. What are the specs of the T-1 cam?

Hey Cowboy,

Thanks! I am looking forward to digging around under the hood.

The T-1 Cam specs were: 221/221 .558/.558 112 LSA The powerband is from 1800 to 5000 or so then the torque starts dropping off.. Great midrange

Along with the LS6 intake, I also have a -25% under drive that is going on this week. That should be good for some more power.

You may want to throw an upgraded fuel pump with hotwire kit in there for safe measure. Never a bad idea.

The LS6 intake will definitely be worth every cent.

I was thinking about that exact same thing when I cranked the car up this morning for a little drive. I could hear the fuel pump "wirring" up and down as the gas was depressed slightly: don't remember ever hearing it like that.

Probably for another post/topic but any idea regarding what pump to upgrade to and how much something like that would cost? This would have to be a drop the tank kind of ordeal correct? It is probably a good idea to take care of little things like that as a reliability measure.

Cheers,

The MTI T1 was the first aftermarket cam I had in my Z28. After a conservative tune it picked up about 25rwhp at peak. It had some good lowend and decent midrange.
After a few months I had to install a new fuel pump as well.

~10rwhp gain for that cam probably about right - remember it's got a stock tune, stock LS1 intake, and stock exhaust manifolds. All those popular small cams back then (MTI B1/T1, Raughammer's Hammer C1) were very mild. They were ground on old fashioned 30 year old lobes, and many were designed to work with stock LS6 springs like my Lunati .540" 222 single pattern. It only made 380rwhp with a set of $2500 GTP heads.

LOL! I know, I am starting to feel really bad for the poor thing. I still need to get the ported TB from Shaner and install the LS6 intake etc.. I could maybe use a little help with the LS6 intake install. Thanks for the offer: I will keep it in mind..

Cheers,

"".... and install the LS6 intake etc.. I could maybe use a little help with the LS6 intake install ..."

try this link, easy job, be carefull of the Oil pres. switch, I pulled my intale 3-4 times with no problem, But on the last pull I broke the switch ( about 40-50.00)
you mat buy a special wrench to remove/install the switch or be very carefull when moving the vac line which goes to brake boster, also becarefull with the 3 ? vac lines which connect to the REAR of intake
you may like to change both knock sensors and the wireing horness while you have the intake off, do not over tighten them and do not pinch the wires which connect the knoch sensors
good luck Johnny
