Default Results from H/C swap

Well the results are in. I did my own porting on a set of LS6 heads, put in a small Comp Cam (222/224 0.566/0.568 112LSA) and installed Kooks headers. I am running full emissions gear and high flow cats. I got my car tuned at ESP to work through some driveability issues. Hip pocket is aching...

Result was 400.2HP, 383.6TQ

Not bad for a small cam. Probably could have got a tad more HP by increasing the port volume, but I am much happier with my big flat torque curve (for track racing).

Sounds pretty good! I don't know what mine is putting out. There is no one in my area that has a dyno that I know of without driving 100 miles.

What drivability issues are you having? Mine won't idle good cold! It wants to idle fast around 1500 rpm, but after it warms up it idles fine. That and some shifting at low speed problems is really all the problems I have. The only tune I have is a Hypertech Power Tune. I am still waitng on HPTuners for 98 models

Hey man, I moved from Columbia 1 1/2 years ago. There is a shop in town, ATS, and they have a dyno. At least they used to. Summerville is a short drive away.

Where is it? Can you give me any more info. I would like to check it now before I use the HPTuners and then after to see what I gained, IF it is not too expensive. I have enough money for the software, but after that it is kinda tight!

Im near Middletown...not so far from East Side Performance. The driveability issues were:
1.Idle was a bit lumpy at 700-800rpm
2. After you got off the gas, the revs would drop too fast and then stall
3. After the car sat for about 30mins, on restarting, it would start and then stall...you would have to keep your foot on the throttle for about 30sec before it would idle by itself.
4. Car would surge (I think this is correct term) at low engine/driving speeds

Just found out when I drove the car home for lunch that it is still doing number 3. And now it is sometimes idling as high as 1100rpm...will have to get these fixed.

That's a very interesting graph. You rarely see an attempt to dyno the shorter RPM range with medium to big cams. With this definition, "down low" has as many different meanings as "lope", lol.

But your graph holds a steady line of well over 300 rwtq from 2-3k rpm. That is more than peak tq of a stock ls1! What is really amazing is this is all going on with the larger primaries.

I realize it's on a Vette, but this might be a promo for True Duals with X more than anything else. If I were you I would also be like

I shift at 6500 with the c1 hammer cam and he just has a little more exh. duration. basically same shift point will work.

Unfortunatly, some don't get cranky until a day or so later after we've done the drivability tuning......

Like I said in the PM, just pick a time, and I'll load in the changes. It should only take about 20 minutes total.

It is a nice torque curve.

I am happy with the acceleration between 3500 and 6000rpm which is about where I shift (M6). I believe the torque curve has a lot to do with the higher port velocity in the heads... the primaries may actually be hurting me a bit, but they will help as soon as I spray (when I get some more cash).

I am sure ESP can work out the problems with the idle. When I left after the tuning, they made sure everything was running fine. Kevin believes the computer may have re-learned in a bad way and needs to be readjusted.

I used to have the thunder 224 cam on a 114. Honestly, you hardly knew it, I had my TB hole drilled out a little (Before edit) and raised the idle a little. Very Tame.

With my car you can really tell that it has a cam. It has a mild lope to it when it is idling but it is definately noticable. Could also have something to do with my big stainless exhaust system amplifying the sound...
