Default 799 Heads and Cam - Results

Just got the dyno results from my Head/Cam swap. This is my first dyno, so I don't have any before and after. Major mods in my signature.

Before anyone flames me, I know these numbers seem way too high for this combo. I assume a happy dyno, but it's just a tuning tool anyway.

I did some minor diy porting to my heads: blend seats, smooth rocker bump and got a competition valve job. I milled them 0.025 and used a 0.040 gasket, so it has a lot of compression (aprox. 11.5).

Big thanks to Martin Smallwood! (tick performance) for the custom cam. I'll keep the specs quiet ; )

Love the torque curve! Numbers definitely seem high for home port heads but who cares

Why the secret on the specs, usually he's pretty open about that kinda of thing?

No real secret on the cam. Basically a SNS stage 2 just tweaked a little to match my high compression.

Very nice! Now it's time to run it at the track, and see if the dyno numbers match the trap speeds

Yea the numbers are extremely inflated. Those types dyno's seem to always give out very generous results.

How can you tell what type of dyno it is?....I'm not sure myself.

Outside of my high numbers, does my dyno chart look about right in terms of where the HP/TQ sits relative to RPM?

Yes, that looks totally normal to me. Just a FYI here, back when I has my old LS1 setup I made 405 rwhp on one dyno, and 460 rwhp on another, and guess what... both were Dynojet dynos to boot lol. I think you can see my point lol

I'm not sure what kind of dyno that is. Yes I think your HP & TQ graph looks inline with the RPM.
Here are two examples that I found both showing extremely inflated torque numbers and HP numbers using the same type of dyno that you used. I know a dyno is for tuning but I also like to know what kind of power Im putting to the ground and I would like that number to be accurate.

Thanks man. So you are guessing these are the same dyno types based on the similar look to the software interface in the picture I guess...

That and how they all have very inflated numbers. 470rwhp 462rwtq is what a strong 383 stroker or even a mild 402/408cid would put down.

I'm sure your car runs strong though. Should definately get you in the 11s if you hook up.

The 460ft-lbs of torque is pretty high for a 346ci engine on pump gas, but as you said, its just a tool. A before and after would have been good to see.

It's a custom SNS Stage 2 cam. Valve events are identical.

I would expect this set-up to make 420/390-440/410.

Two things that get people more worked up than anything are:

1) politics
2) dyno numbers
