Gotta say, once GM put EFI and good ignition on the big block, it got way more efficient and powerful. Actually turned it into a decent engine, for what it was.

It could have been tuned to use 87 octane but I did not because even stock the truck picked up noticeable seat of the pants gains with more timing (especially in low RPM areas).
The truck was tuned for 89 octane before the cam and I retuned for the cam but kept it tuned for 89 octane so it would be a fair comparison before/after.
I could probably have squeezed a few more HP out of it on 91 octane but I wanted to keep the tune conservative enough I can run on 87 in a pinch because some small towns in Oklahoma and Arkansas only have 87.
I will say that the timing maps are not optimized. I used an Fbody high octane timing table then adjusted it down until it was happy and played around with it in the area of peak torque. The low octane table is either stock truck or close to it.
That said the truck seems to feel better when I put 91 octane fuel in it anyway, especially in summer. This could be a placebo effect though.

OK, thank you for responding so quickly! Sounds like you have it dialed in pretty well! You've mentioned before how well the truck runs with the "new" cam. I call it a winner!

The L33 and early non VVT Gen IV motors had the 193-193 cams with .482-.482 lift and the VVT cams seem to add duration and lift on the exhaust side.
I was wondering what 5% more duration and lift would do when I came across this post.

1 more Bump Just ordered this cam for my 2000 Silverado Ext Cab 5.3 LM7. Doing 243 head swap(shaved .25) new valves 2.02/1.57 with Pac beehive springs. Currently getting new 4l60e installed with stock converter already have CAI stock intake , Magnaflow muffler with 3" tail pipe stock cats and stock manifolds. Just want a little more pep from my daily driver. Will have this tuned also.
