Default 2003 holden monaro coupe (pontiac gto)

Hey guys ,

Have a 03 Holden Monaro coupe with a stroked ls1 to 408ci. 240's/250's cam, 243 heads, 90 fast tb and intake manifold, Yella Terra roller rockers, 1 7/8 headers into twin 3 inch exhaust.

Went on dyno yesterday, had 1 O2 sensor completely dead and the other was very slow to react. Injectors were maxed out (I will upgrade to 42 lb in next few weeks).

90% humidity and 30 degrees Celsius.

Results were 460rwhp thru a 6 speed with the maxed out 28lb injectors. Will return to dyno once the 42lb ones go in.

Check out idle on you tube

here are some pics of "El Toro"

Nice thing about having cubes is you can unlock power as your budget allows. 408 is great, but once you have the right supporting bits (larger exhaust, injectors, more compression, better heads, etc) you can REALLY capitalize on your cubic inches.

My 402 is the an aluminum LS2 block with built internals and only made 460-470whp back in its early days (2009). I've kept the car this entire time and stuck with the project and now I have a working man's LS7 - 540/500 NA at the wheels from just 6.6L.

LOVE the CV8 body panels on your goat! Keep us posted on the build progress.

Just revisited your post - you're all set except for injectors! Are the 243 heads stock, or ported?

Thanks HISS !!

I cop a lot of flack for the chrome wheels as majority of people like black rims , but coz i have bits of chrome on side , front grill etc the black took away the 'pop' of the car so I have retained the chrome rims.

Here's some pics of it on track day 2 weeks ago....

Update - car is currently at tuners with the new 42lb injectors.

Car already has 044 pump and fuel reg when was running the 28lb injectors and was tuned 9 years ago but someone who had only just started ls tuning back then.
End result was 460.4rwhp.

So with the 42lb injectors and a complete retune, I'm interested to see what or if any difference will be made to the car?

it has been no slouch with the 28lb ' s running at as much as you would possibly want to tune to safely. Will it gain hp? Remain the same ? Lose?

I will post results as soon as possible - car is also getting a 'ripshift' fitted to the T56 (Google ripshift to see details on one of them).

Thanks. Yeah the chrome wheels were only put on due to chrome inserts around grill, sides etc I will change to black eventually.

Colour is ironically Ford focus orange.

Yeah intake set up is great....better if I could easily get a filter to suit it. Intake doesn't get hot, gets plenty of air in via open vents in hood using steel grill plate with double wire mesh attached as a filter to stop small stones, rocks, metal, etc entering.

Car is at dyno today having the 42lb injectors installed and a new tune........current tune is 8 years old 28lb injectors.

Ok so I finally got the info about the engine.......

Its actually a 402ci stroker not 408 lol
Scat crank
Carrillo rods
JE Pistons
Patriot cnc stage 3 heads
236/242 cam

Previous tune with 28lb injectors = 460.4rwhp

New tune with 42lb injectors = 501.9rwhp

A gain of 41.5rwhp

460 ft lbs / 623nm torque

Very nice. Did you ever answer if the 243 heads are ported? If not, get them ported, or even better yet, invest in a set of AFR, TFS, MAST, or PRC heads. I bet with a better set of heads, you're looking at another 35 to 40 rwhp.
