Default does drag radials cause dyno losses ?

kind of a dumb question but i am trying to figure out why my car is down on peak power after my last round of mods that SHOULD have gained 10-15 rw. has anyone dynoed on regular radials, then redynoed on a taller set of drag radials ?
i added a ported fast 102 (was 90)
1 7/8 headers (was 1 3/4 )
4" intake piping in sd tune ( did have 85 mm maf)
made 538 rwhp, 490 rwtq before
makes 525 rwhp 505 rwtq now.

i gained torque which is nice and peak power carries better to redline which is 6,600 but it just isn't peaking as high as i thought it would. i am pretty sure my dyno isn't stingy . i dropped the exhaust and only picked up 4 rwhp so my y pipe and 4" exhaust dang sure isn't the problem. i may throw on my regular tires and strap her back down to see since it won't cost me nothing,i guess i am just venting my frustration

different dyno so not apples to apples, but with my torque reading higher i figured mine is not reading less than the other one.i have never heard of just rwhp reading low but rwtq reading what it should. i will have to wait till this fall to hit the strip when it is cool out to get some accurate times since i usually just race it in spring and fall in cool air lol.

I hear ya, but you simply can't get an accurate back to back this way. Take it to the same track and in similar weather or go back to the same dyno...really the only way to know. Or you can do what I do...find someone who's a drivers race with you and see if that changes lol

I've even seen the same dyno vary. First time my car was ever dynoed with an old setup it did 370rwhp, took it back a few months later to get the tune finished and it made 348rwhp.

Ran faster at the track after the second time.

since it is my dyno i have experimented and did a **** ton of pulls and it winds up around the same rwhp lol. maf tune, sd and no maf. went to all synthetic oils to no avail. and get this,i forgot to grind my waterpump down and it had a vacuum leak and still made the same before and after i fixed that issue. had the intake back off a few times to make sure it's not cracked or warped, all is good. no leaks anywhere. new o2's and new plugs also.
this p.o.s is gonna catch hell next time at the strip haha !!! well last time i broke my 9" and i went from 3:89 to 4:11 gears but i also went from a truetrac to a spool so i figured the hp difference was a wash.i dynoed it with the 3:89's and made the same.

I've seen a mustang dyno read 60hp higher switching from drag radials to street tires on the same day, literally in the same hour.

nope, smooth all the way till i lift @ 6600-6700. power use to drop off more after 6200 or so and it carries out flatter now. i don't have the graphs downloaded or i would post them.other than it just not being 20-25 rw higher like i was wanting it to be it looks great.

Not on a car, but my old liter bike. The bike had a Dunlop tire that went from hard to glue during a 3 second burnout. On the dyno during the same session it lost 6 whp from the start of the tuning session to the end. After an hour cool down it gained 4 whp. In other words it swung 10 whp hot vs cold (hard tire vs. sticky).

I would think a bigger softer tire would cause a greater drag and hurt HP readings.

For example tonight I witnessed a '11 Coyote Mustang w/ Paxton and 15" MT drag radials pick up 40rwhp airing up tires from 14psi to 30psi

To answer your question... absolutely. Here is a video of my car. This is dynoing on a force loaded MainLine Dyno, and it is with MT Pro 275's. Basically, because the dyno is trying to hold back my car so much, it was overheating the tire. The smoke that you see coming off of the tire is NOT from me spinning the tires on the dyno. The tire is literally overheating and melting. To put it in perspective, I dynoed 608whp on his dyno that day, and with nothing else changed, I would dyno right at 750-760 on a dynojet (even with the same MT pro tire)
