Dyno #'s seem low on 99 SS
i bought a used low mile 99 hoss and was digging through all the paper work and found the dyno results. Its got MTI stage 2 ls1 heads, MTI R1 cam, FLP longtubes with no cats, magnaflow exhaust, underdrive pulley, lid, 90mm throttle body, fast 90mm intake, moser 12 bolt and alot of suspension parts. It only dynoed 384 hp to the rearwheels. That seems low to me. what do you guys think. what kind of 1/4 ets are people running with around 380 hp. six speed?

That 12 bolt is probably not helping dyno numbers..but I wouldnt be made with those numbers.Im willing to bet at the track the car will perform like a 420whp car should.Dont focus on what a sheet of paper says,go lay down some times and then see if things add up.If the car runs well and you bang a good number at the strip then who cares about the dyno results.

I finally took it to the track and it trapped 117 mph . My 60 ft. Was 1.9 and I couldn't run better than a 12.5 . How good do you think it could run if I hooked better? What estimate horsepower does it have with the trap speed?

117 is 420-430 at the wheels full weight. Earlier poster called 420 and was apparently dead on

Perhaps if it doesn't have stock gears is why it is dynoing lower? I was looking into rear gears recently and they say if you go with a higher gear (numerically) you will actually dyno lower than with a lower gear.

If I'm not mistaken, this must be the really clean 99 HOSS that "KatechJason" sold here recently. I was talking to him about the car and he was thinking that those dyno #s were possibly from earlier in the cars history possibly before the ported heads were added. He was also not sure what gears were installed in the 12 bolt rear. I do agree that it should be closer to the 420 rwhp #.
At any rate, the 117 mph trap speed is good for some easy mid 11 sec ET's. Congrats on the purchase of the car, that is a very nice ride and I am sure with some practice on the launching you should be able to improve on the ETs tremendously. You will have to launch pretty aggressively to get the full potential out of the car, but at least you already have the 12 bolt rear that will handle the drag strip launches way better than the factory 10 bolt. Good luck with that awesome car!

Fyi, I went to 2 different dyno jets (I got lower than expected numbers with the first dyno) and the 2nd dyno showed a 25rwhp increase. Dyno could just be low. Btw, I went 114.5mph consistently with a 368rwhp LT1 camaro with a 10 bolt, so I suspect 410-420rwhp is probably accurate.

I made 365hp on a mustang dyno on the cammed 346 and went 113.6 on 2.2 60ft. Go to another dyno if you really want to know, usually about 60 bucks. Plus you can check the tune. I've learned chasing numbers on a street car can get old, go out and enjoy it!
