There is a "somewhat" common practice on unloaded dynos to run the timing up to basically fluff the numbers, but there is no way it would run on the street like that, so after the pulls they will take timing out. Sometimes they say nothing sometimes its jargon like "detuned for the street"....but it still happens more often than youd realize. One more reason why a loaded dyno is better really.

Also i believe it is on a mustang dyno, you can input an incorrect weight of the vehicle and totally mess with the numbers.

There are quite a few things that can be done to skew numbers.

Dyno numbers impress the car show crowd.

A couple baseline pulls at low power to get an idea where peak torque and peak power are then do the rest of the tuning from there. Using where it starts to lay over as a good idea where to shift it at.

There's a video floating around social media a few months ago about how to make the dyno change its calculations just upon the atmospheric conditions.
I personally prefer Mustang dynos over Dynojets, the actual loading is more realistic with test repeatability is something that has be repeated from test to test. (as a consumer level dyno)

Unfortunately any dyno can be manipulated to read differently and you would never know unless it just spit out something totally unrealistic.

We dont like to do it but we have done baseline pulls without the laptop in the vehicle even just the air fuel hooked up. Then there is no question that is there base line and nothing was being changed.
