Went to New Era yesterday with my 80 T/A LS3 Swap here are my results
Went to New Era yesterday , nice guys there and Mike did a great job on my very rich tune. Started with 347 rwhp after the tune it is 384.88 . My car is a 80 Trans am LS3 430 crate engine, stock except a CAI and old Edelbrock longtube headers. I have a 4L80E with a Yank 3600 stall and 3.42 gears....car is around 3650 lbs. I was just wondering what that would roughly run in the quarter and MPH .....

Wow. 38+/-HP with just a GOOD tune! Just shows what tuning does for ya!

I kinda watch for tune results after reading Greg Banish's book on tuning. I see more and more proof that a GOOD tune is totally worth it!

That's a lot to gain on ignition alone. Generally added or pulled?

Yea I was just ball parking it. It's a tad bit lighter than the Camaro. Good gear and a stall would set things off. Match them to your liking. Get the factory suspension to hook will be the thing. Lighter & better front suspension parts help also if not purchased already..... tubular upper and lowers etc....nothing $$$$$ just basic updated stuff.
I've told this story before and it's off topic. But I got back in town and passed by the old hood. Seen Uncle James he's older and diabetic but he's out here pulling the engine in his old truck for a refresh. Boo his son is helping and buying him out. 355 sbc with 13.1 compression With iron heads in a 78 swb 1500. On 93 octane! I wonder what it would dyno at?

Yeap. 13 to 1 with iron heads & Dome Top pistons* and factory size crank. I copied uncles formula just with updated factory parts. Big cam to bleed off cylinder pressure. I think James has 4.10's but I know he has said it needs 4.56+ to be more effective. Drove that truck 80 miles round trip for years down to league city when he drove 18wheelers. Has the same truck just factory everything. To ole to maintain the other truck. He's how I met Jim the ole Comp Eliminator racer now sales man. Old stuff. Should have seen James BBF swb 68Ford1500 and his Brothers Charlie Ray*rip BBC swb chevy.
High compression since I was a kid. Early-Mid 80's stuff I'm now 40. James is now 68 he's been doing this since he was in his teens. G.Good was around the corner on Airline in the 80's. That's N. Houston.

So does 13.2 with a 408 and Ls7 heads have pump gas capabilities with a cam with 270+ degrees in duration. Simple hp theory. May drive like **** but I'm use to it. +1 for the 4l80 You should see the bill. Vs James and a old 400 trans. I'm in Johnson City watching the game headed to NM.
