GM LS3 LS376/525 Crate Motor

A regular production ls3 with just dyno headers on an engine dyno is almost 500 hp

I had read that article a while back but I was paying attention to the aftermarket cams. I did not connect the dots. This quote from their testing says it all:
the LS3 crate motor was configured on the dyno with a set of long-tube headers, a complete Aeromotive fuel system, and tuned to perfection with the Holley Performance HP EFI system. Not surprisingly, the stock cam offered plenty of idle vacuum (over 20 inches) and acceptable peak power numbers. The baseline pulls produced peak numbers of 496 hp at 5,800 rpm, and 491 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. The measure piston-to-valve clearance exceeded .150, meaning, it was more than adequate for performance use.

Instead of your snarky answer, it would have been easier to just say which measuring method was used. Thanks for nothing.

Thanks for posting this article!

I have also asked the dealer who I bought the 525 from to go back and ask GM Performance. If they are advertising Net HP on the stock crate and Gross HP on the other Crates, as demonstrated by this SuperChevy test, that is highly misleading.

Another option is to get the 430hp LS3 and install a different cam. Another buddy did just that in his 66 Fairlane. The car is over 4000 pounds with him in it and it rips!!! Ran 11.85@114mph at LS Fest.

Anxiously awaiting the next set of results!!!
When you say you have cats, do you have stock cats or high flow cats? If you want to keep cats, I did as well and will be using them with the LS3 you NEED a set of high flow cats. I am using American Racings high flow catted Y.

Back to the original post, just completed an LS1 to a crate LS3 376/525 swap in a 98 T/A. Sent the computer out and had it tuned for the LS3 . Very disappointed . Runs like **** so far. Will keep working away and get it figured out and keep you posted.

I wonder if he tuned it for a 430HP LS3? That WOULD mess it up!

i had my 911 with the 525 out for its first AutoX about 3 weeks ago. The engine made tons of power at rev, however it stalled often and was hunting at idle. It will go back to the tuner for adjusting idle and low rpm behaviour. I am hoping to improve its street manners.

Tuner was given ALL the details of the car and engine. Just wondering if the computer has to do some learning on its own ? We did change the throttle body to drive by cable . But the tuner new that . And we are running long tube headers with no cats so only 1 02 sensor per side. Sits there and idles fine but the throttle response is terrible even in neutral.
